Vortex Springs is the one I was thinking of, thanks.

Great spot and pretty close to the interstate for a quick visit. Highly recommend.

I used to scuba dive there

Usually Morrison or Vortex Springs. In that general area.
Right. Pretty sure Morrison was one of them.

I've seen better slimy holes in the quad

I generally despise cold water, but I love the springs in the dead of summer. I've actually never been to that one, but the springs along econfina creek, howard's creek, and cypress springs are great.
The smaller the spring, the trashier the crowd I've found. The big ones are usually a mixed bag of people. The little springs that are a mile up a creek off the main river are usually full of the reddest of necks in the summer
If you've never checked it out, Merritt's Mill pond is essentially a lake filled with spring water. The state record shellcracker (chinquapin for some of you) was caught here. 4.86 pounds

Actually lived about 20 minutes from here when I was a kid (Blue Springs/Withlacoochie River). Spent many summer days here. Its been "developed" and has a bunch of pressure treated decks around it now. There are caves about 40 ft. down where people have died behind that kid on the right in the water. That dude is jumping off the "crows nest", which was a lot bigger when I was young. That cypress looks half dead in the photo.

Is this the place where they often do scuba diving certifications? If so, I have been there.
No. You are probably talking about Vortex Springs. Its not very far from Ponce De Leon springs though.

Did my first open water cert dive at Cypress Spring in Florida. It's since been closed to diving and is only open to canoeing and other such activities now. Did my first cavern/cave dive at Vortex. Have done dives at several other springs in Florida as well.
The water is always cold and clear so vis' is great, but you don't want to spend too much time in the water during a session. It gets cold in a hurry!

The worst part about the springs is the type of crowds it attracts. Almost never fails that there is a hispanic family reunion or birthday party with hispanic music absolutely blaring from a speaker. Or drunk rednecks blasting rap or shitty country.
Last time I popped into Morrison Springs last year, there had to have been over 100 people there and there was garbage EVERYWHERE. Used diapers that people just threw in the trees and were hanging. It was obscene the amount of trash.
I want to say that the folks that manage it are about to put some rules in place to make it not as trashy. I hope so.

Yeah it is miserable cold. All of the water that makes up these springs comes from Tennessee.

Very cool. Pun intended. There are over 1000 known springs in Florida. It makes for a fun road trip.

I'm not a geologist, but I'm fairly certain that most of the springs in the panhandle are water from the florida Aquifer, which is very close to the surface in the panhandle. The aquipher is just replenished with rainwater that seeps through the limestone.
The rivers and creeks themselves may be fed by waters from NC, Georgia, Tennessee, but the springs are just coming up from the groundwater in the aquipher

Every nice place in America ultimately gets ruined by trashy people.
How about enforce some rules and protect the places?

These aren't hot springs. They remain a cool 68 degrees year around. This is why they are so attractive to wildlife. So no, not a good place to pick up a brain eating amoeba.
Brain eating amoebas can’t handle 68 degrees? Good to know

Social media has really done a number on these places. There are very little cool natural spots anymore that are under the radar.
