Yes, I would do it. I would just go into it knowing that there is a potential for it not to turn out perfect.
What does that mean exactly? I think I've read it's between a 80-90% success rate. But Im not sure what that means in real life. I have seen 5 doctors over the years and none of them have really even wanted to talk about surgery. Most of the information on surgery Ive had to find myself. Dr. Riche said it was synovitis/capsulitis, but I found that it was 2nd MTP synovitis and the Weil procedure online on my own.
Clearly, it's because of what you mention that the doctors haven't aggressively recommended the surgery. I understand that. I think, though, I've done a poor job of communicating to them just how much this has affected my life.

I'm waiting to get another MRI right now. My foot feels and looks like it's going to explode(1st MRI was done 3-4 years ago). I will check back on this thread later. I really appreciate your feedback though. I am trying to educate myself as best I can. can't thank you enough.

one of the problems with the weil is that toe can start to float (go up) afterwards because of the change in forces at the joint.
it can also lead to pain at an adjacent toes if it is shortened too much.
I'm not trying to scare you out of it. I do several a month, but I just like people to be informed.

I had a bone spur on my heel that was very painful. The ortho doc wanted to inject a cortisone needle through my heel and warned that is would be painful. I decided not to. I went to a podiatrist some time later and he said he did the injection through the side of the foot with little pain. I went with the podiatrist and he was right. I have had many cortisone shots over the years and now they are not nearly as bad as they used to be. Don't fear getting one because they are worth it.

Cortisone shots every three months?!?! I'm not a doc and I know that this is a terrible thing to continue. I'd go get a second opinion.
