Pneumococcal vaccines: are they ineffective against Covid 19?

If the major concern is complications resulting in pneumonia, why aren’t we utilizing Pneumococcal vaccines as a preventive measure? I don’t know the answer, just curious?

We probably don’t have any.
If I’ve learned anything from this fiasco it’s that apparently our healthcare industry as a whole has pretty much nothing stockpiled for an emergency.

I don't think any vaccines are 100% effective. That coupled with pneumonia being a very dangerous and fast progressing disease

I don’t know the answer but I’m pretty sure most nursing homes give flu & pneumonia vaccine
My mom had to sign something so that my Grandpa could get his
It would be interesting to see if the people in Washington had it

There won’t be a covid 19 vaccine for years. Theoretically, couldn’t you immunize the herd from the most serious complication proactively?

Vaccines require the exact virus to allow the immune system to build specific antibodies. The specific antigen is required.

Pneumovax and prevnar are the 2 pneumonia vaccines. They provide immunity from bacterial pneumonia caused by streptococcus pneumoniae however it takes time for the vaccines to work and they have to be given one year apart from each other.
It’s also possible to acquire viral pneumonia or even fungal but there are no vaccines that cover viral or fungal pneumonia.

Are you suggesting that covid 19 results in a form a pneumonia that the current vaccines can’t prevent. I’m not talking about vaccinating against covid itself

So you're asking why we dont use a bacterial vaccine for a novel viral infection

I don’t know the answer,

Pneumococcal vaccine protects against strep pneumococcal bacteria
COVID -19 is viral
Therefore no help
COVID -19 is viral
Therefore no help

Is this a trick question? “Pneumonia” is a condition caused by a wide variety of bacteria and viruses. The vaccination inoculates the recipient against a couple of the typical causes of the condition. No one knew what this virus was when this year’s pneumonia vaccines were being developed.

Vast majority aren’t dying because of a secondary bacterial pneumonia such as pneumococcus

Correct - vaccines are basically antigen - antibody generating dead virus’s. Can’t make you sick but do prepare your body
