PLAQUEMINES PARISH, La. —

A Plaquemines sergeant has been issued a misdemeanor summons for theft of a Ring doorbell camera, according to the sheriff.

The sheriff said the incident happened on Sunday when Sgt. Scott Lott was seen on the doorbell video taking the device.

Lott was providing service through his personal construction and landscaping business to a client while off-duty when he learned about the possibility of his client being stalked via a surveillance system from "an abandoned" residence across the street, according to the sheriff.

As a result, Lott removed the camera from the residence, not with the intention to deprive the owner of the property, but to eliminate the source in question in an effort to protect his client until the allegation can be investigated properly, the sheriff's report said.

The property was returned to the owner and the PPSO Internal Affairs Division is currently investigating the incident.

Lott is currently suspended without pay pending completion of the investigation by Internal Affairs.

Never trust a person whose last name rhymes with their first.

Small town cops are typically just a hair above the local criminals.

How dumb can someone possibly be. Ring cameras record to the cloud, you can't steal to make the footage go away.

A deputy moonlighting as a landscaper moonlighting ss a private eye doesn't think that far ahead.

Yep - "Lott was providing service through his personal construction and landscaping business to a client." What kind of service I wonder. Looks like Jody doesn't like being filmed.

Either 4G, or the house wasn't really abandoned, i.e. it was unoccupied but the owner was still taking steps to protect it.

Speculation here, but I suspect the guy who hired the cop to "mow his lawn" was embroiled in a dispute with the absentee homeowner over the aesthetics of 3-inch high grass or something.
