I am going to go against the grain here. I had plantar fasciitis and couldn't walk to the bathroom in the morning without stopping to stretch. Tried arch supports. Rolled foot on frozen water bottle. Did a lot of reading. Decided my shoes weren't helping my feet. I decided to only wear shoes with minimal arch support, very flexible soles, and little-to-no heel to toe drop - minimalist shoes Basically I wanted to go barefoot, but with shoes on. Even tried the five fingers shoes -love wearing them, but they look goofy. My plantar fasciitis got better and now I've been basically pain free for the last 4 years or so.

Tl/dr: feet weren't meant to wear shoes.

I had it to the point I had difficulty walking and absolutely couldn't run even if my life depended on it. Started wearing Orthaheel/Vionic shoes, with instant relief. I have flat feet and need a real arch support that won't give out. The arch supports in Orthaheels is fairly rigid and works for me. Plantar fasciitis is a real pain!

Good friend of mine fought it for years and couldn't shake it. He did PT and everything the Dr instructed. Ended up having surgery and it's taken him 5 months to get back mobile.
He's been a power lifter for about 25 years, in his mid 40s now. He was squatting 495 regularly prior and just broke 405 for the first time since. He's playing rugby now too which he couldn't do prior to the surgery.

water bottle in the freezer to roll my foot on for relief

I like this idea, Nursie. I have used a tennis ball, but the ice may be better. I'm ordering the sleeve some kind soul mentioned in the thread.

I had it really bad after I moved back up north (beside point) but it was a bitch...

I used a towel around my toes and pulled up on my foot to stretch it frequently... I also would freeze a 20oz bottle of water and then roll it on the floor with a dish towel in between to protect the nerves.

Good luck.

My podiatrist told me about the water bottle trick. He also suggested the inserts, stretching and foot roller.

I'm too young to be able to pull off wearing orthotic shoes so i was willing to try anything but ugly orthotics

It takes months and it will come back if you don't let it fully heal.

^^^ Her suggestion worked for me. Also I got orthotics from a running shoe store which seems to help as well.

Yeah he gave me those, wasn't talking about those. I'm saying he said I may have to get actual prescription orthotic shoes made when I get older.

I had to give up wearing heels during that time as well....too painful

I know I will burn in the fiery pits of hell for suggesting this but... Crocs. Yes, they look hideous. You will be embarrassed to wear them in public.

I've had PF three times and all three times switching to Crocs cured it in a month or so. I am not proud to admit that, but by golly my feet sure felt a lot better.
