Places to live in Houston/Austin

I'm interviewing at a couple of jobs in Houston and Austin and wanted to get some apartment suggestions from the OT. Houston job would be on Richmond Ave in Upper Kirby, and the Austin job on Manchaca near William Cannon. Budget would be about $1200-1500. I'd like to stay within a 15-20 min drive of each.

There’s two Camden apartment complexes near there. Camden Stoneleigh and I can’t think of the other. Both are nice and both are in that budget.

Not a bad area and south austin is a lot more affordable than north. There's no real bad placed around there. Just search around and find something you like. The further south you go, the cheaper it'll get.

You can get a very small 1 bedroom apt in midtown Houston for that range. Like 700sq ft small.

Camden Greenway was offering 1Brs for $1200 a month when I moved out. This includes a good TV/Internet package, and the clubhouse has a 2-story fitness center. I regret not signing on for another year.
OP - See above. It would be extremely close to your work and is walking distance from Kirby Ice House.
I had an issue with bugs but I was on the first floor in a surrounding garden. Neither of my other friends on the property had an issue at all.

What's important to you? Bars/restaurants? Peace and quiet? Access to bike lanes/hike and bike trails/swimming holes?

Good luck with your interviews. Both sound like solid options. That area of Austin is reasonably affordable and you have pretty easy access to the greenbelt while still being close to downtown.

In Houston I suggest Montrose area, Rice Military, Washington Ave corridor, and the Heights. Look at both houses and apartments. (Basically anywhere in the loop above 59/69 and west of downtown. Midtown is another possibility but less natural and less hike/bike friendly)
In Austin I suggest south Lamar below the river and ideally south of Oltorf for commute purposes. Anywhere on Manchaca down to 71/290 (pronounced Man-Shack), anywhere on South 1st street below oltorf, and same with South Congress below Oltorf. The westgate area is another possibility but with less bars/restaurants.
