Before the theatres in the burbs there was the Gordon, Hart, and Paramount theatres downtown. The Hart used to have a Saturday deal for kids with prizes and an older movie. The all served an orange drink in a plastic orange which you could roll down the aisle when empty.
The Hart and Paramount had small passageways through out the buildings. When the movie was boring it made for great exploration

Mother's Mantle (bar) on Highland Road. Still there but renamed.

Istrouma high ruled in football and people paid a premium to live next to it.

It was originally and I.H. Rubenstein's department store. The old flea market in the Rebel Shopping Center was, years ago, a store called Shopper's Fair. There was also a big drive-in theatre behind that store called the Rebel Drive In that had a huge Confederate flag painted on the back of the screen.
