Wife and I are moving to Augusta GA and will be driving there starting Thursday. We have a small child so we will be splitting the trip up in two days.

I see Montgomery is roughly the halfway point but we would like to go about 30 minutes to an hour further before we stop,

Can anyone tell me if Lagrange, GA is a safe place to stay and if so recommend any hotels. I know that Auburn is a pretty safe place to stay so any recommendations there would be great.

Thanks in advance

Much Appreciated

I wouldn't stay in LaGrange. Not much close to the interstate that would be appealing. Stay in Auburn or drive 20 minutes farther than LaGrange and stay in Newnan (exit 47).

Several newish hotels off the College St. exit in Auburn. Get off I85 and there is one within sight to the right of the ramp.

Any of the hotels between exits 51 and 58 are fine. 58 is Tigertown in Opelika.

Not as familiar with Montgomery, but I believe anything east of the city is fine.

Were you the one who had the thread about where to live in Augusta? Where'd you end up getting a place?

Hampton Inn is right off I85 on Hwy 29 in Auburn. Or Holiday Inn Express is about 1/2 mile off same exit. I would stay at Auburn exit.
Lagrange is a cool little town, but it isn't right on the interstate. But if you do stay there, drive into the town and have a hot dog at Charlie Joseph's -- great little hot dog stand off the square

We are staying in an apartment for a month while we look for houses but one of these is the area we are going to buy in:

Evans
Martinez
West Augusta
North Augusta

I like North Augusta the most. We went there last weekend to get an apartment. We looked in all those areas. Columbia County is nice but its really just little unincorporated towns with no downtown area. North Augusta is actually really cool. Its got a nice little downtown area and you can see the skyline (I know massive skyline) of Augusta. Its really cool. I liked it a lot. West Augusta is also very nice but we will probably have to put our daughter in private school.

We were shocked at how much house we can in our price range compared to here. In the 220 to 305 price range you can get a super nice house with all the updates and upgrades. The granite counters, nice showers, wood floors.
Im actually pretty excited about the move. We close on our house the end of August but will probaly put an offer on a home up there within a couple weeks.

If you have any other questions about the area, let me know. I'll answer if I see them.

If you don't stay at the Golden Cherry you're a fool. Best place around. Great for kids.

I do and its worrying me a lot. We are looking for a daycare/preschool for our daughter. All of the nice ones, well at least from what we've read, have long waiting list. Not sure if you have young kids, but can you recommend as many,if any, as you can?

Sorry, no small kids. I'll check with one of my coworkers who does tomorrow if I can remember to. He does live pretty far out in Evans though, so places he might recommend would be far from North Augusta.

eta: Now, if you have any questions about bars/restaurants, I might be of more assistance.

I checked Angie's List for the area and none showed up in North Augusta. I only got 7 results, all with A ratings but only 1 or 2 reviews. The closest to N. Augusta would be First Baptist Preschool and then Blue Ridge Preschool and Daycare. There are some others further to the northwest in Evans or in Grovetown. Good luck!

Thanks. We are thinking about sending her to Augusta Prep. Its the dam waiting list that are killing us. My wife will be working in Augusta so we dont have to have something in North Augusta.

And sure, Ill take some bar/restaurant tips?

I stayed at a nice Fairfield Inn right off the interstate in Opelika. A waffle house was next to it if I remember correctly. That is all you really need..a good hotel and a waffle house.

I believe you're thinking of La Grange, Texas.
