Unfortunately, a lot of parents will blame the child when pets and kids have a little scuffle.

"Oh, well, my kid hit the cat, so he deserved to be scratched."
"No, dipshit. Your child is 18 months old, and he doesn't have full command of his motor functions yet, and pushed the cat when he was trying to pet it."

Ive known several people who were great dog owners, but those dogs ended up attacking someone. Theyre animals, its not like only bad owners have incidents.

In the article linked in the OP, the mother was in the apartment with the child and dog
most likely not watching them, supervising the interaction. Responsible dog owners know when their dog is getting aggressive and can take it away before it escalates.

but yes i agree that more action should be taken towards the owners.

I never said that.

I have a huge problem with people that keep aggressive breeds inside the house with young children.

Such an ignorant statement. I have 2 pits, one was a rescue. And i have a 4 year old. My daughter drags the pits around the house by the ear and they smile and go along. My girlfriend works at the lsu vet school, and has been in the vet field for 15 years. My full bred young pit is scared of our cats and is one of the sweetest dogs ive ever been around. My gf took a lot of time with the her when she was a pup to make sure she wasnt aggressive, its called being a responsible dog owner.

Pitbull attacks, child dies My pit bull is a great dog, and smart and polite as all hell, but he's afraid of children. Any dog of any breed can become afraid of children because they're so unpredictable. If you have a pet of any species that can harm a human, then you have greater responsibility than that of a rat owner, I mean chihuahua owner. Some people can't handle that responsibility and should have to own up to it. 99% of pit bulls are not mean dogs. There are just too many people not fond of extra responsibility.

Great post.

That's true. Plus a child (along with clueless adults who swarm this planet with confidence) can't read the body language of an animal. A scared dog of any breed is dangerous to a four year old girl.

Btw, the American Pit Bull Terrier ranks around the bottom of dog breeds when it comes to aggression. They're not mean-spirited animals. They can just deal more damage than your average four legged creature.

This isn't a house. This is an apartment owned by a single mom. Pit Bulls need a lot of exercise. One, every apartment I've rented, didn't allow certain breeds of dogs. I'm pretty sure Pits are on that list. Two, if one believes they must have a Pit around small children a man with a gun needs to be in the house.

One doesn't need an aggressive breed for protection, just a breed that barks. A security system probably cost just as much as two pure bred Pit Bulls too.

You're right, I'm a commie because I don't think pits belong in a house with toddlers.

No, he shot a stray dog that wandered onto his property.
