I can say from personal experience, if it's copper- be careful, but I'm talking very cold temperatures. Copper will burst.

Message Pipes frozen - question by More beer please New house on a slab and nowhere to even heat up the pipes. All underground
There is exposed pipe somewhere. Find your main shutoff. There is a pipe somewhere that comes out of the ground to go into the house. That's probably where it froze. Mine is outside under a spigot. 6" of exposed pipe.

If you have pipes frozen in your house, the only thing that I know of is to open cabinet doors under your sinks, open faucets, and wait.....when it unfreezes and blows the plug of ice out, there will be no doubt that it is thawed.

Just talked to a buddy of mine who is a plumber. He said to open up all the faucets and shower. And wait. Said not to leave the house (duh) and locate the shut off valve if need be. Need to find that.
My stepdad also added not to get under the house with a hairdryer for fear of electrocution. Solid point.

Was also suggested I open up frozen pipe faucets, run hot water in area closet to water heater for 5 mins. Shut off then move closer to the frozen pipes to try and push it through since most pipes furthest away from hot water heater freeze?

How cold did it get where the ones of y'all with frozen pipes live?
It was in the mid to low teens (14 when I got up at 630) here with windchill ranging -5 to 5, per the news.
No pipes frozen here, but the fricking heater was running everytime I woke up.

Hell, it's still 16 here now. In in NW AL. It dropped back into the 20s when the sun went down yesterday.
I didn't realize it was going to get that cold again last night. For some reason I was thinking Thursday night was going to be the coldest.
The windows on the car were froze up for awhile when I got out around 730 though.
It's painfully cold outside in the wind.

Damn. How did so many people's pipes freezer around here? It shouldn't have been near cold enough for that to happen. Are y'all on raised houses with an open crawl space?

Yeah. My house was built many, many years ago. Can crawl underneath house and all pipes are exposed. Metal though. Had a nice drip going, but the hot water in one bathroom is frozen. Waiting for the defrost.

Your pipes are going to explode. Evacuate your house

RE:Frozen pipe locations.
Outside hose spigot pipes.
Pipes in garage walls or ceiling where there is a bathroom right next to the wall or above the ceiling.
Any unheated area where there are pipes.

I have real small flow in all of mine. Does this mean they're good or would I have to wait until they thaw to see if they split?
Posted on 1/7/17 at 10:47 am to Kreg Jennings
Shower dripping now too. Hopefully we get out of this without much damage if any at all.
You better believe I'm paying $200 or to have my pipes wrapped. And not the way I want to have them wrapped.

Aggie asking about pipe.
I'll allow it.
Do you have full flow in any room? Seems like you should...but I'm in healthcare so I knows nothing.
It got cold af in Katy, Sealy, Bellville...
