Thus my statement

Exactly. Yes, officially the Soviets were our ally in WWII. But they were no better than the Germans, and in many ways worse.

Are you under the impression that 36 million Jews were killed during the Stalin and Hitler's time?

They also lost more people in that war than all other nations combined. They weren't perfect. They were horrible. Part of it is their culture. See their war with Napoleon. But they helped beat Germans.

Never have understood the reason for trotting all these soldiers and war equipment through the streets in a big parade. I guess it's to flex their muscles domestically and internationally. It just seems odd to me. I can't imagine this type of display on Pennsylvania Ave.

It a very old tradition in Europe, especially Russia. The Germans use to be the masters at it though dating back to Prussian days.

Every country does this. It's a morale thing. Jingoistic but you got to give the people something to be proud about.

Couldn't find a recent German one

I know, right?

We'd never have overt displays of military pride in our Nation's capital.

It's just such a strange concept.

Definitely not something you'd see here. Only in Europe and Russia in particular.

I personally would love it if there were a combined forces parade in DC. Think about it. Parade down Constitution Ave with an Airshow over the National Mall to follow. Tie a couple frigates and submarines up along the Potomac... As a military tech fan, I'd fly to DC to see it. It would be a huge boon to the DC economy as well.

For everyone hating on the Russians, they've invited us to join in their V-Day parades before:

Those are hardly the same. I've never seen a parade where there were hundreds of soldiers and tanks and AA trailers marching past a sitting US President. To me it's more like we know our armed services are bad arse and we don't need to show it off.

I think he meant the scope and scale of this parade. Yeah, we have 4th of July Parades and other military related holiday parades. But they do it on a whole other scale. Imagine having a parade down Pennsylvania Ave consisting of and entire armored division. That's what they're doing in Russia. In fact, they've got an entire motorized rifle division in their army who's main job is things like this. They're called the Taman Guards

Yes, yes, I know. The others are always different, we'd never do things like they do, etc.

That's all fine and dandy, but without their help pushing from the eastern front, we could have lost the war, or at the very least, it would have been extended YEARS.

They helped us bring down the German regime, and for that, we have to at least be grateful. They absolutely did some deplorable things, but let's not act like the US has never done anything bad...
