I may be wrong, but I think those are sailfish, not swordfish.

The photographer was Robert Capa. He was killed in 1954 by a landmine in Vietnam.

Charles Coolidge died on April 6.

Who?
quote:

On October 24, 1944, Coolidge was a technical sergeant in charge of a group of machine-gunners and riflemen of M Company, who were to hold a vital hilltop position in France near the German border. During four days of attacks at Hill 623, east of Belmont-sur-Buttant in France, Coolidge and his group held off numerous enemy infantrymen, plus two tanks on October 27 using grenades. One tank unsuccessfully fired five separate rounds directly at Coolidge. For his actions above and beyond the call of duty during the battle, Coolidge was presented the Medal of Honor by Lieutenant General Wade H. Haislip during a ceremony at an airfield near Dornstadt, Germany on June 18, 1945.

Coolidge was the last surviving MoH recipient from the European theater.

He died in Chattanooga at 99. He had lived the last 50 years of his life with multiple sclerosis.

Charles Coolidge in 2014.

Trivia: palm trees not indigenous to Fl, all of them were imported

Interesting. And completely wrong. There is a really nice stat park nearby that is full of Sabal Palms which are absolutely indigenous.

Notice the two sentries on the fairwater planes attached by harness.

They were on shark watch. Surprised they weren’t armed

My sub had a swim call off the coast of VA one time. We had completed an inspection and were heading to port. The captain was told the port wasn’t ready for us just yet so he surfaced the boat and had us swim/bbq for the afternoon while we waited.

How high are the plains to the water... Looks pretty high...

Side note: That's an awesome pic...

depends on the ship (obviously) but I'd estimate its about 18' above the water line. I don't know what class submarine that is (not 688 or Ohio) maybe one of the old school guys recognizes it
