quote:

She's 81 now, but never married again after Dad passed away in '93. In the photo in the tobacco patch, she would work on the family farm in the summers, but during the school year, she taught first through seventh grades at a one room school house in West Virginia. (Yes, they still had those in the early '60s up there.)

She was a sheriff's deputy when my dad met her in 1963. He was a displaced LSU petroleum engineer that was stuck in a hell-hole known as Hamlin, WV., but that is where he met the love of his life. And yeah, I have to admit, she was kinda cute at the age of 20 in that photo. Dad always did have good taste.

story makes it better, she sounds like a hoot

Wow! Looks like you might need to check out a podcast called TechnoRetro Dads. It's ALL about this kinda stuff. My brother, "Shazbazzar", was one of the original hosts, but he had to drop off last year due to increased responsibilities at work. (You know... The PAYING job.) If you had a childhood in the 70's or 80's, I promise you'll like it. (That is to say, if you remember watching Kyle Macy, Rick Robie, Sam Bowie, and Melvin Turpin playing at UK, then this should be right up your alley age-wise.)
