Picadilly Cafateria (and nearly identical Morrison's) in it's heyday

Depending on how you look at it, or what you look at, the air was rare here on August 6th as Debra Wolf, 17, was chosen as Miss Smog America, 1970, during a noontime ceremony. (Photo by Bettmann Archive/Getty Images)

It's funny the things you forget about that were actual major issues.
SMOG in NYC during my childhood was godawful as it was in most major American cities

Growing up, I always associated smog with Los Angeles as every time the topic came up, I'd always see pictures of L.A. Was it as bad as the pictures and stories I'd hear about of L.A. in NYC?
ETA: just looked up NYC smog and saw some of the skylines and wow, those looked just as bad and even worse than L.A.

Picadilly
I eat at the Picadilly in Jackson, MS every now and then. It's still pretty good.
I miss the Morrison's from the Northpark Mall back in the 90's.

I know a lot of most of the photos posted here are findings from the internet and are not necessarily personal, so I hope that these old family photos that I ran across a few days ago don't come off as being pretentious. I just kinda like seeing the way people dressed in different eras. (And that girl in the tobacco patch is my mother, so no lewd remarks, y'all!)
Tending tobacco in Lincoln County, WV (1960)
John Michael Bowles at his home near Roanoke, VA. (1863)
Joyce Bowles, Griffithsville, WV. (1933)
Sgt Ken "West-by-God" Goode, 196th Infantry Brigade, Republic of Vietnam. (1971)
Uncle Kenny was my mom's youngest brother and my favorite uncle when I was a kid. He came by for a visit when I was three before he left for Vietnam in 1971. He gave me his infantry braid before he left. Years later, when I graduated from OIBC at Benning I made a point to wear HIS braid on my Class A's as a tribute to him. Yes, he did return from the war with only a case of jungle rot as any injury received from his time "in country." His nickname of "West-by-God" comes from his home state of West Virginia. His brothers in arms would often mistake his home state, thinking it was Virginia rather than West Virginia. He got fed up with them one night and told them that he wasn't from Virginia, he was from West-by-God Virginia. Thus he was known over there as "Sergeant West-by-God!"
Bobby Tullis, age 7. Hickman, Kentucky. (1937)
Bustling downtown Baton Rouge on Third St. (early 1930s)
Lee "The Swamp Angel" Tullis leaving Meridian, MS for Dunkwa, British Gold Coast (now Ghana), West Africa to harvest Mahogany for Mengel Furniture Company. (1950)
Paddlewheeler Captain, Lewis David Tullis at the wheel of his boat Lil Fritz returning to his home port of Hickman, KY after making a run to Vicksburg, MS. (1898)
Yeah. Those pilot wheels are a hell of a lot bigger than you'd expect!
Uncle Brooks C. Bowles (left), 6th Infantry, 5th AEF, WWI. (1918) Awarded Silver Star for actions at Battle of Cantigny France, May 27-31, 1918.

mom would get it
Dammit! I warned y'all!
She's 81 now, but never married again after Dad passed away in '93. In the photo in the tobacco patch, she would work on the family farm in the summers, but during the school year, she taught first through seventh grades at a one room school house in West Virginia. (Yes, they still had those in the early '60s up there.)
She was a sheriff's deputy when my dad met her in 1963. He was a displaced LSU petroleum engineer that was stuck in a hell-hole known as Hamlin, WV., but that is where he met the love of his life. And yeah, I have to admit, she was kinda cute at the age of 20 in that photo. Dad always did have good taste.

I was wondering if this mailing address was still active.

Not sure what this is, my guess would be a 1930s Disney promotion
I've been looking for information on this photo and it seems to be a Mickey Mouse Club meeting at possibly the Fox Dome Theater. The first one was held on Jan. 4, 1930. I can't find interiors of the theater during that period yet and not sure exactly when the photo was taken.
