They weren’t common, but when I was a kid in the 70s there were some still around. I remember for a little kid like me wasn’t easy to get them to let go of the bottle.

I don't know how this ad got past the art department, and I don't want to know

I think when those machines were prominent Cokes were a nickel.
In fact when they raised the price to six cents there was a huge uproar.
When I was a kid going to Arabi Elementary they had an out building that housed the band room and one room with a coke and candy machine and cokes were $.06 back then----late 50's/early 60's. The cokes came in the little green bottles back then. Candy bars and chips were a nickel each.

The "Mom & Pop" corner stores back in the 60's were in all neighborhoods. I can remember when Big Giant Soda started being offered in stores and us kids would get them instead of the small cokes or 12 oz. sodas offered at that time.
The Big Giant Soda was a full 16 oz. and the same price as the other sodas------easy choice for a kid. Oh, and partner that with a double pack "Stage Plank" and we were getting into a sugar rush.

Sophia Loren:

Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate. In my face, you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow—BOOM!—and spill all over the table.”
