S&H Green Stamps
True story. I traveled in my auto almost 5 days a week and always purchased gasoline from stations that gave S&H Green Stamps. I probably had accumulated 75 books of them and LSU had an away game scheduled at Notre Dame. I got S&H to accept my stamps for a round-trip airline ticket to Chicago so I could attend the LSU Notre Dame game in South Bend.

I put this on the Deco post but it is worth repeating. The statue is called Electra and is on top of the Alabama Power Building in Birmingham. All the materials for the building, except Electra, came from within 60 miles.

A friend and editor I worked with (RIP) went to the NAB show where the first Ampex quad video recorder was rolled out. The host came out and gave a little talk and walked off stage and then monitors all around the room showed him doing it again when he wasn't on stage. Engineers nearly rioted thinking it was a trick.
