No doubt!
Look what I found!
Darryl Strawberry at Spar Stadium in 1982.
The opposing team's "Bull Pen" was basically some folding chairs lined against the railing pretty close to the Beer Garden. Some guys I knew would sit along the railing and trash talk the pitchers. It was all in fun, nothing malicious. When the Jackson Mets came to town Strawberry sat with the Pitchers for some reason. The guys I knew were talking their usual shite. Telling Strawberry he wouldn't make it to the bigs. He was lucky to be playing Double A ball, crap like that. Starwberry would laugh and talk shite back. When it was his time to bat he comes up to the plate. Points his bat towards the guys I knew and then pointed in the direction over the right field fence. The next pitch, POW, out of the Park. He rounded the base to a standing ovation from my trash talking buddies.

we might have been sitting close to each other, there was one drunk heckler one night(not me, this time,) and I think it was against the Mets, that said something that set them off and they all came over the beer garden fence and beat the shite out of him, he didn't get thrown out, someone patched him up and he went right back to the beer garden and they all came over the fence and beat his arse again

I wasn't there that night I would have lovved to seen that.
Two of the guys I knew that would sit along the railing and trash talk were Roy Birdsong and Ronnie Snyder. Both of them are no longer with us. RIP

I was smarting off to a guy one night while he was on deck, he hit a ball that I think is probably still in orbit, he came around the bases and made sure to come right in front of us and tell me off, it was great, all of the fans around us(both of them,) were laughing their asses off, so was he, and so was I

I'm watching the SEC Tournament and I noticed their batting gloves. I thought of the gloves I use to wear back on the late 70s and early 80s.
I can't even begin to think about how many of these I went through - they ripped fairly easily...

I saw the Midland Cubs play the Alexandria Aces at Bringhurst Field, about 1972.
Duke Snider managed the Aces.

there were some big names that passed through the Texas league, on the way up and on the way down, Denny McClain pitched for the Caps briefly one year, after his 31 win season

The Padres had some studs in Alexandria. Mike Ivie, Bill Almon, John Grubb, Randy Jones, Dan Spillner, all made the majors.

Dizzy Dean called a game at SPAR one night, sang “The Wabash Cannonball” at the 7th inning stretch

I worked with a guy who met Dizzy. He was a HS baseball player who had a part-time job in a restaurant. They brought him over to meet Diz. While they were talking, something in the kitchen caught fire.
Dizzy said 'Grab them beers, boy!", which he did, and everyone ran outside.
As they stood outside while the fire was put out, Dizzy said "It's a good thing we saved them Falstaffs, ain't it, boy?"

No. Big Dan was a Mississippi boy, so it was somewhere in that state, and a long time ago.
