I remember the early 70's when we would hit the road at 4 a.m. en route to Houston. Stop for Stuckey's breakfast somewhere b/t Orange and Beaumont. Make it to Astroworld for 9 a.m., hit the hotel at 5, and make it to the Dome for the game at 7. Seems like yesterday !

My first Astros cap. It was wool and stretch fit, and I never left the house without it.
A couple years later I was able to get one similar to this. It had the orange and blue collar of the early days.

We didn't have money like today, so getting one thing every couple years was like Christmas. I think both of these are still at my parent's house in storage.
It wasn't until I was a teenager and I was able to get my first New Era cap at the Houston Sports Exchange in the Galleria.

It had a leather head band inside, I still have it today.

I got invited to a tryout camp with the Astros right after I got out of LSU, they gave me a few trinkets but I honestly don’t know what ever happened to them

I had a few of them. We even put little number stickers on them, I had #25 for Jose Cruz. My dad went to the '86 All Star game and got me the white one.
I wish I still had these (had them in orange)

Saints games from the 1970s.
This is from 1970.
Media Guide.
I know a guy who has season tickets for 4 seats. When the Saints started playing, in 1967, his grandpa bought season tickets for him, his wife and his kids. As his kids started having children he would purchase season tickets on the seats next to where he had his original season tickets. By the time he passed away he had season tickets for all of his children and their children.
At first, different people in the family would pay for one or two of the seats, but it got too expensive to keep all of them (I want to say it was a total of 14). Today I think they only have 6 of the 14 seats still in the family, but these pictures just remind me that it was evidently affordable for someone to take the whole family to a game and not break the bank.
Today, not only do the seats have a high cost, but they try to squeeze every dollar they can out of you. Merchandise, concessions.. Parking.. Then they advertise to you so people will go out and spend more money.
I mean, I know we are a consumer based economy and it depends on everyone spending money, but I just want to watch a damn game,

Gene Elston and Lowell Passe. Used to listen every night on KLVI (I believe it was) in Beaumont.
