So, I have been having some lower back pain for quite a while now. I have been getting weekly deep tissue massages and going see a chiro. It was getting better but it has kinda plateaued. The pain is now mostly in my lower left back and left hip. Is this something a PT could work out? Thanks.

Thank you. With that said, can anyone recommend a good PT in Lafayette?

What will this tell me, whether it is structural or muscular?

It will tell you what is going on with your spine and give the PT, Ortho, whatever a good idea of how to go about addressing the problem.

A friend of mine recently went through this. PT didn't work. Chiro helped. Got an MRI and found out one leg slightly shorter than the other and it was causing the back pain. Had to get orthotics. Orthotics + Chiro and he has a lot less pain now.

You're situation could be different but sounds very similar.

Yes. I'm a PT. As far as outpatient PT you want to make sure you're going to a clinic with a good manual therapist who will spend some time with you. I'd also look for a McKenzie technique certified therapist in the area( should be able to find with a Google search).

If you're at all inclined to treat yourself buy treat your own back by robin mckenzie on amazon. Should be about 10 bucks and does an amazing job of explaining some very simple general techniques that just about anyone can understand.

One thing I would avoid in Louisiana is a clinic that basically has one overseeing PT and an army of techs. These clinics can kind of be very mill like. I've only worked in Louisiana on contract for a few months at a time in the decade I've been licensed but that seems to be an issue in a lot of bigger clinics from what I've gathered.

Wait, so he saw a PT and a chiro but neither did a leg length discrepancy test? I would highly recommend going to a PT and having an evaluation. Let the PT use his/her clinical judgement to whether imaging is recommmended. Most times a functional imbalance or musculoskeletal issue can be resolved without specific imaging. You always want to try the most conservative treatment first. Not only is there a higher chance of decreasing your overall cost but it also holds down healthcare costs and insurance premiums in the grand scheme that can rise due to unnecessary imaging . There are numerous PT's in the Lafayette area who are great. Best of luck to you!

Ask me how I know you dont know what you are talking about.

MRI will not tell you if 1 leg is longer than the other.

Any PT can properly dx that without a MRI. Every chiro I know will dx that without an MRI if you complain of back/buttock pain.
