Went to my 30th high school reunion several years ago. Why? frick I don't know but that's not the point. About half the attendees were doing blow in the bathroom and many were on ex. Everyone of them smoked cigarettes and weed outside the door of the non smoking ballroom. I thought really? fricking almost 50 years old and still doing this shite?

The opiate epidemic that they tried to crush is just turning into a heroin epidemic. Not any better off. Worse probably, oxy users know how much to take. Heroin is a guessing game every time.

Its amazing that the FDA and DEA either don't know or don't care about this. Either way things are going to get worse and the bodies are going to start piling up.

Really? The affluent Uptown area?

Yup. I'm talking kids that come from Carnival families (although they are the exception, not the norm).

ha, not the parents. The college crowd. High schoolers in some cases.

A kid from Lusher OD'ed snorting heroin a couple of years ago. She was 16 or 17, I think. Maddie or Maggie somebody...

It turned into a big deal because she wasn't from tbe hood and several other kids had recently ODed, but didn't die (at least I don't think). The guy who bought the heroin for her and the guy who sold it both ended up in legal trouble. The dealer got substantial jail time.

Maddy Prevost. She was 16. The friend, Henry Deeb Gabriel III, who gave her the heroin was 24 and accepted a federal plea bargain for a 15 year sentence. (He also lied to the girl's mother about what she might have taken. Maddy died at Children's Hospital from massive acute hemorrhagic pulmonary edema.)

My friend went potluck for roomates freshman year at Tulane and ended up with an out of control junkie. Said junkie is in jail now for manslaughter (or some similar charge) for OD'ing someone else with a needle.

Not really. He was a heroin addict. Frick him

I'm assuming posters saying shite like this also refuse, out of principle, to listen to Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, the Stones, and virtually every classic rock musician ever.

These people also don't drink, smoke, eat chocolate, drink coffee or anything else that shows sign of weakness.

A guy I went to high school with is in rehab right now for heroin, and has relapsed multiple times. He's only 20 years old.

I have another friend who is currently in rehab for roxy.

I understand not wanting to praise a celebrity after they die of OD, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a sad situation all around.

I'm also gonna bet that most of the people saying stuff like that are the same tough guys with the whole "people who commit suicide are cowards/selfish" mentality.

Person on facebook posted today basically saying, "I don't know why people are getting so worked up about another dead junkie, just because he happened to be famous. Addiction isn't a disease. No one forces a person to get high."

Siiigh, the stupid is strong with this one.

Hope there is enough sympathy left over for smokers. They just can't overcome the addiction

Saw an interview with an addiction specialist last night. He said 75% of people who OD have alcohol in their system, and that if we could get people to stop mixing alcohol and heroin, we could cut heroin deaths way down.
