When I was young and trashy, I had one that grew to 13.5 feet. I sold it when I caught a whiff of good sense.

Owner of Reptiles here and have worked with them for a long time. People are stupid, they don't love you. They tolerate you. An adult male, has no business handling a snake of this size by himself. This dude was irresponsible and paid the ultimate price for it. My thoughts for his family dealing with his loss.

I don't think they understand the term 'pet'. A snake can't be a pet.
A dog can be a pet. A cat or a horse or even a pot bellied pig can be a pet, but a snake, a lizard or a gold fish will never be a pet.
