I have no doubt there is a way to build in a sensor that would disable a phone if it detects movement over a certain speed. Have it key off of GPS location.

Passengers wouldn't be allowed to use their phone either.

Would never happen unless you could isolate it to just the driver.

Have cell phone shut off when traveling at certain speeds is the only way to prevent texting and driving.

Don't punish everyone because a few cant figure out how to safely text and drive.

You are correct. The people downvoting you are probably liberals who think the government should make everything they dont like illegal because some people are morons.

"Those that would trade liberty for safety deserve neither."

As someone who drives a 5speed sequential two days a week, this has zero effect on my phone usage.

Just make everyone wear driving gloves

What about passengers? So people can't text in an Uber?

Are phone calls not allowed either? Because I can drive just fine with my bluetooth hands free phone calls.

I never said it was practical but the ONLY way to stop texting and driving is to have them shut off. If there a way to over ride it for passagens the driver will override it as well.

My biggest gripe with my wife's car. On a road trip last summer and she was trying to Bluetooth connect it to the radio to play her Pandora stations. I had to pull to the side of the interstate and put it in park to connect. I understand the pairing and all of that not working while in motion, but this was a phone that was already paired, and she just wanted to connect. Press one button on the radio and try to connect, we get an audio message saying this can't be done with the vehicle in motion. It is a van, highly unlikely someone is driving it alone.
