If there was clearly no hazard being indicated, other than rain, you would eat your lunch at your next stop while looking at your valid citation.

Where does it talk about rain in the statute?

I wouldn't have to invent a thing. I have a driver's license and I know how to properly use my lights.

Would you go to court to fight the citation?

Absolutely.

Incorrect.

Hazard lights are used to signal a hazardous condition. Period.

Exactly, it doesn't include rain as an acceptable reason for utilizing flashing lights to indicate anything.

Next question.

I don’t know what settings they have set for their vehicle. All I know is that when it’s broad daylight but really overcast and grey, with sheets of rain, the taillights aren’t as effective as hazards.

The Louisiana statue in questions allows for hazard lights in the case of a vehicular traffic hazard. So if in Louisiana, which hazard would you claim?

That depends on the road conditions and how I was handling them.

Not according to the statute that was posted earlier.

Here is the statute.

quote:

Louisiana Revised Statutes Tit. 32, § 327. Special restrictions on lamps

C. Flashing lights are prohibited except on authorized emergency vehicles, school buses, or on any vehicle as a means of indicating a right or left turn, or the presence of a vehicular traffic hazard requiring unusual care in approaching, overtaking or passing.

The kind of hazards the law speaks of are situations like being broken down or needing to change a tire on the side of the road.

They already said anything official that the state police puts out cannot be trusted.

That isn't what it says.

What I read was a person saying you couldn't trust what A cop said, what I posted is a release by the State Police. The folks who will write a ticket for this if they are so inclined. ANd it seems like the guy mostly arguing the facts is not a Louisiana guy.

Correct. Your generic hypotheticals don't shut that down.

I can't think of a scenario where I'd even be stopped, let alone cited. So, yes, I'd absolutely win in court.

I would. I travel between Florida and Texas often, and have even had the audacity to use my hazard lights to signal a hazardous condition in your state.

Crazy, right?

Just from what I recall it stated flashing lights are for emergency vehicles and permitted for use when indicating, left/right turn or the presence of a vehicular traffic hazard you are approaching, passing, or overcoming.

Next question. No, your questions indicate you don't know what the statute (that was cited for Louisiana) states, so let me ask some questions.

Do you not know it's raining until other drivers ahead of you put their hazards on? Do you think other drivers behind you only know it's raining when you indicate to them with your hazards?

Does rain happen at such precise and limited moments that your hazard lights will indicate the presence to others prior to their approach, pass, and overcoming of it? I guess if you often come upon a 10ftx10ft heavy patch of rain, then maybe your hazard usage would be valid.

I said the exact same thing. I asked about an official stance by an official outlet of the state police and I got laughed at.

More arrogant than crazy to use lights in a manner that the state police consider illegal but you do you buddy.
