More and more I see people driving cars like a beater 1998 BMW 3 series or late 90's Lexus that sounds like they are running on 1 less cylinder. Do people just drive cars like this to say they own say a BMW? Get a practical working car not something that is a POS but once was grand.

I can't imagine trying to keep a twenty year-old BMW running.

That's going to cost more than leasing a new one.

Most people don't buy cars for the car, they buy the car so so their friends and family will know they bought a BMW, Lexus, Mercedes. When people buy a Mercedes/BMW with 100k+ miles, they need 5k of repairs usually before driving it off the lot. The worst part is when people pay 14k for them.
