my new boss is a liar.
I have a hard time believing anything she says, or anything about her past or life outside of work.
She's even tried lying for me through an email to a customer. Besides the fact that she shouldn't have even replied to the email in the first place b/c it was none of her business and so minor, she replies "for me" by lying to the customer, who I had already talked to over the phone.
She lies constantly about little things, and constantly tries to use "manager" words to make herself sound like she knows what she's doing. It amazes me how she got hired, and i have no doubt she lied about her resume to get the job.

Yeah a 5'5" jew ginger from New York. Tells people he was the starting free safety at tOSU in the mid-90s. I'm like dude, come on. That's not even hard to look up to verify you're FOS. Yeah dude, for real. They recruited me hard blah blah. Also said he hit $250k on roulette in Vegas on New Year's Eve and then turns around and talks about money problems.

Tried to work things out with one of the white liars in my life recently, they said we were going to work things out, I finally felt like we were, felt pretty good about things. And then the next day they said it was all a lie to just tell me what I wanted to hear, that they had no intention of resolving our issues and had decided that we never would be resolving anything. That level of lying is hurtful.
Constantly lying to someone that you're in a relationship with is disrespectful and hurtful. I agree. I've dated a compulsive liar, although it wasn't for very long. It doesn't take long to figure out that they're full if shite. They're not going to change. When someone openly admits that they're telling you what you want to hear, it's up to you to tell them to frick off. At that point, they're doing it because you let them.
And you're right, lying to impress people is annoying, but as long as it isn't compulsive, I can deal with an occasional lie. No one is 100% honest 100% of the time. But the one uppers drive me crazy.

Some people are just compulsive liars, and my theory is it is deeply rooted in insecurity.

What have I ever lied about? That's what makes all of my trolls so brilliant - they are all true.
