Bravo to CNBC for this phrasing.

That's why outside of Asians the infection rate isn't as bad as, and recovery rates have been faster. None of this is true. It uses the same receptors as SARS. I linked an animal study that showed less of the receptor actually makes the disease worse. quote:Its one of the many reasons it was so quick to derive and antiviral vaccine for which is now in testing phase This also isn’t true. The antiviral used has been around long before this virus and was used for ebola. Where the hell are you getting your information?

Sorry you feel the need to discredit my information with random studies that are unrelated. I trust where my information came from. Its never been wrong before. 40+ year history of credibility and relationship. Ill stick with that over a random Internet page blogger. I was just wanting to share SOME of what is known at this time. SEATTLE (KOMO) - More than 700 people in Washington state are being publicly supervised for coronavirus, according to new results from the Washington State Department of Health.

The department said Tuesday 746 people in the state are under public health supervision, including those at risk of having been exposed to novel coronavirus. These people are monitoring their health under the supervision of public health officials.

The figure includes close contacts of laboratory-confirmed cases, as well as people who have returned from China in the past 14 days that are included in federal quarantine guidance.

You wanna link that? Pretty sure this idea has been debunked. Repeatedly. In this thread.

I wouldn’t say it is debunked. It’s possible, but there hasn’t been a legit smoking gun traced to the lab at this point.

You’re right. The statements of the Motor Boat Bandit were just a hair outlandish to me.

Their ability to quarantine is the most effective treatment for this.

quote:

There are pluses and minuses, but the NYT story highlighted the fact that donated supplies are going to politically connected people and not to hospitals or worse yet, just sitting in a warehouse. Meanwhile doctors and nurses are dying from lack of proper medical equipment.

Let's take this a step further.

As with most public health emergencies, there is no single "most effective" plan of action. Quarantines make the most sense under the following conditions:

1) The quarantine takes effect immediately after the disease is first diagnosed, so that a relatively few affected individuals can be isolated.

2) Those individuals in quarantine receive treatment and constant supervision within an isolation ward at a top-tier medical facility.

3) Proactive steps are taken to ensure that other people with life-threatening illnesses receive the treatment they need.

China, on the other hand, accomplished the following:

1) Denied the existence of the coronavirus for several weeks and threatened any doctors or nurses who tried to sound warnings about the disease.

2) Quarantined people in large public spaces and their own apartment blocks, thus creating large 21st century leper colonies that serve as petri dishes for the coronavirus. The Chinese government also provided little to no medical support for countless people afflicted by the disease.

3) Thoughtlessly signed death warrants for every other person who has a different, yet serious, illness by confining them to their homes, whether or not they needed life-saving medication.

Therefore, China's quarantine is a complete and utter medical disaster. It's also a sign of the Chinese government's callous disregard for basic human dignity. The misery that's been caused by their lack of compassion and obsessive desire for power is unimaginable right now.

China has changed the case definition again and will now only count those with symptoms that also return a positive lab result. China's lab testing accuracy and capacity have been a concern from the very beginning but only reporting positive lab results is more inline with how other countries are reporting.

No one has mentioned the "Ancient Rule". It came up as a solution to the spread of Ebola in Central Africa and it harkens back to the local solution (pre-medical-doctors) to the spread of Small Pox.

Outside the village, a grass/twig/wood hut would be built and the family of the infected person would join the infected person there. The door would be closed. After a specified time (doubtless tied to infection rate) the door would be opened and anyone standing who could walk out, would walk out. The remaining bodies and hut would be burned.

I guess that explains this....

Similar number of deaths but much lower number of new cases

After a while, China will only count people who yell out "Curse you, Coronavirus - and long live Xi Jinping" as they die.

By the way, the following article from Foreign Policy has this to say:

LINK

quote:

The straight decline in new cases of the virus could be good news, or it could be statistical manipulation. Outside of Hubei, diagnostic test kits are in short supply, and other provinces haven’t switched to using the symptomatic diagnosis now accepted in Hubei. The kits are only being used to test people who came from Hubei and not for cases of transmission, so it’s unsurprising the numbers are dropping. Chinese doctors report that dozens of other hospital patients are being quarantined and treated but not officially diagnosed.

If it's true that only people from Hubei province are being tested, the numbers are a complete sham.

It seems like this is poised to explode in SK, Japan, etc. If those are the confirmed numbers we know there is already a significant amount of asymptomatic carriers that are out there.

Hopefully we see a mortality rate closer to the flu, that may be the best case scenario at this point.

As for the US, hopefully we can hold this at bay until the warmer months and buy us an “offseason” to do more research.

Spring break coming up in less than a month has me concerned. It's the perfectly bad scenario to have a bunch of college kids travel then bring it back to campuses.

I'd assume that they were under world class care during their illness. What are the death rates for old people that get the flu?
