Patton

I rewatched Patton last night with George Scott and was reminded of what makes a strong leader and a man. Leaders who aren’t afraid to do and say what they believe in and to do what is right no matter the backlash or opposition. They don’t blame others for mistakes they’ve made or make excuses for their misfortunes or failures. They’re tough on people they lead because the world is tough and tough times call for tough people. Right now with the victim mentality, attention seeking, and divisiveness going on in the US it was a refreshing reminder.

My favorite Army General of all time.

Patton's grim expression did not change. "There are four hundred neatly marked graves somewhere in Sicily", he roared into the microphone, "All because one man went to sleep on the job". He paused and the men grew silent. "But they are German graves, because we caught the bastard asleep before they did". The General clutched the microphone tightly, his jaw out-thrust, and he continued, "An Army is a team. It lives, sleeps, eats, and fights as a team. This individual heroic stuff is pure horse shite. The bilious bastards who write that kind of stuff for the Saturday Evening Post don't know any more about real fighting under fire than they know about fricking!"

Watch what people are cynical about, and one can often discover what they lack. -George S. Patton

If you really want to understand the man, you really should read The Patton Papers all 3 volumes by Martin Blumenson. One of the best books I've read. It has tons of his Diary entries in it. I think I will give it a read again myself. It's been a while.

Patton was a cousin of my great-grandfather, also a West Point grad. Have some correspondence between the two during WW2.

You know beneath that smile, Patton wanted to beat the shite out of Montgomery.

Probably Bradley as well.
One of our most overrated Generals.

Nah, him and Brad were ok. They just had differing styles, which caused them to clash at times but him and Bradley were alright with each other.

Ya think so? Can you explain that please?

I agree the victim mentality is all over
No accountability and its all someone else's fault when something goes wrong. Trying to look/tweet strong is not being strong.
