Depending on where you live,Atlanta might be the nearest same day passport office. If you are within two weeks of your travel day you can make an appointment to get the passport same-day. It takes most of the day, but you leave with it in hand.

I've never heard TSA taking a certified marriage certificate. I mean.....they might....but why chance it. Why hasn't your wife changed the passport when she did all her name change stuff?

I have had multiple instances where the TSA said something was ok, and it turned out not to be OK.

Anyway, the TSA probably doesn't matter. You can get through TSA with just your DL. I have flown international multiple times without showing my passport to anyone from the TSA.

What matters is immigration and the airline. They are the ones that check the passport. You need your passport to get through immigration on both sides. But again, I doubt it matters that much for immigration assuming the passport is valid.

What probably matters is the airline who won't let you print out your ticket without showing the passport and if the names don't match there, you are fricked. Maybe that is a requirement by the TSA

He should expect to pay more for expedited service though.

According to TSA, a certified copy of her marriage license will suffice, but I wanted to see if anyone here has ever had issues?

What the TSA says means nothing when trying to enter or leave a country other than the U.S., get the passport changed, it can be fast tracked for an additional fee.

Guess it depends on the country he is going to.

I just don't know why a woman just wouldn't go ahead and change her passport....I mean....at the most it costs you another $100. You have to send your old passport in when you do the name change.....but if you want it back they will punch a hole in it and send it back (I wanted mine back cause of the stamps I had from travels under my maiden name)

you are just a collection of your passport stamps.

I can't see the passport being an issue for immigration into europe or mexico. they don't seem to really pay any attention to the passports there.

I can see it being a problem coming back into the US. The real problem is probably the airline. They don't want to transport someone who doesn't have legal status to enter the country.

It's an immigration issue.

So even if things dont match up they will just let her come into the country without a hiccup?

I could see it being a problem if they are going to Canada. I hear they are super strict now.

Definitely! Australia too. China and India are also super strict.

I just dealt with this. Full out a ds-82 form and mail it soon. I was told I would not be able to use my old passport if my ticket was in my maiden name. Overnighted mine this morning.

You might have more trouble getting back into the US. I would change it ASAP.

With the amount of honeymoons that take place outside the country, I seriously doubt this is an issue.

This wouldn't be an issue in most cases because the wife most likely would not have gone to the social security office yet to legally change her name.

It's an issue because many times if the woman is booking the honeymoon she is all excited to use her married name and books everything in the married name...not thinking that her name won't be legally changed at the time of the honeymoon.

I took my honeymoon a few months after the wedding and didn't change it until AFTER the honeymoon cause I didn't want to chance a snag/delay in getting my passport back in time for the trip.

But for the OP....sounds like they have been married for some time and she just never bothered to change it.

There is probably a rule/law that states after so long you must change it as well, or its invalid

Yep, they say it will until you get there. Then once you get there, it doesn't. They pull you over to the side asking you all kinds of questions. You sitting there thinking of all the cash you just wasted on plane tickets. Then after a few hours, they let us go. But had to pay them $50 1st
