12 and a half years together with some real dramatic slowdown in the last few months. Got sick earlier this week and vets did what they could for him, but late last night informed me the options were several days of intense hospitalization with a very low chance of success and then continued problems if he made it or to let him go on peacefully. I chose the peaceful route.
Really feeling it this morning. He had an amazing life and I'm glad I got to see him out.
Very sorry to hear. My sister went through the exact same thing today. It's gut wrenching.
We went through having to put both of ours down a few years ago, and the entire process is one reason we've not gotten dogs since.

I lost my college dog two weeks ago. He died in my arms at home from cancer. Still all tore up. He was the best damn golden retriever. I had him through so many major life events. Graduation, marriage, first house, kids. He was my constant companion throughout it all.
Just know you aren’t along in this.

This is a nice thought. I've reread this about ten times today and tear up each time.

Yep, the only way to do it. Hold them as they take their last sleep like they loved to do.

Sorry for your loss. I've apologized to many of my furry friends with tears falling from my face.

It hurts and it feels like the pain will never go away. But it will get better. Sorry for your loss.

This morning off a 12 hour night shift the wife and I (no pics) carried our almost 16 yr old Westie to the E Vet and within minutes we knew our path forward. I stayed with him through the end. Peaceful transition. The kids are in college now and the house already isn't the same. I have choked and grunted with tears in my eyes all day.
