JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi corrections commissioner says part of one state-run prison is on lockdown because of a staffing shortage.

Commissioner Pelicia Hall says in a news release that visitation and other privileges are also canceled indefinitely at that prison, the South Mississippi Correctional Facility in Leakesville.

Hall said Friday that the prison was holding 3,051 inmates - 31 short of capacity. The staffing vacancy rate there is 48 percent.

Movement is restricted in a part of the prison that houses more than 1,800 inmates. Other parts of the prison have normal operations.

She says lockdown also could be used at two other state prisons, if needed. She says staffing vacancy rates are 46 percent at Central Mississippi Correctional Facility and 42 percent at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.

Let some people out, problem solved.

No way. These people are thugs and criminals and deserve nothing but to be behind bars the rest of their lives. Even the ones with marijuana charges are more likely to become the next murderers and rapists of this country

Only because we throw them in criminal college. They aren’t being rehabbed and is justice honestly being served? We need prison reform bad.

Are you a retard? I usually enjoy reading your posts but that’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. Hire more guards but do not turn dangerous criminals out on the streets
