We did it ourselves, but during a whole house rehab. Pulled them from the wall made since we were changing the layout of the kitchen a little bit. Off and on spent about 35 hours from start to finish. Sanded down, oil based primer, sand, oil based primer, sand, two finish coats. Used Zinsser oil based primer and SW Pro Classic. I think we had 18 doors and 11 drawers. Looks really good imho

It’s a huge pain but it’s not hard at all and comes out pretty decent. Just suck it up and do it one weekend before paying that much

Here are pictures from ours. It's been a progress. Still need to order new countertops, back splash, re paint walls, and order new stove & fridge. *already replaced microwave & dishwasher.
Sand down cabinets just to rough them up. Don't take them down. We used a $40 paint sprayer from farm n fleet - can get online as well , just local. We used Benjamin Moore advanced line for primer and paint.
If you have specific questions, feel free to ask.

Depends on the material of Construction

I would try a good scrubbing with TSP (TriSodiumPhosphate) solution before I commit to new paint. It's like a Windex for painted wood surfaces.

If not, get TSP anyways when you sand down the cabinets. Pre sand and post to get the grime and after get the dust/dirt off.
Good heads up Tbobby!

Did you ask your wife what does the color of the cabinets matter when you are making a sandwich?

Also the inside of the cabinets is light wood so it’s possible the off white look may work without painting inside.

That estimate is appropriate for full strip, prime and paint job that is with quality paint. Just had mine done and it is WELL worth the money in the end. Only worth it with quality cabinets underneath. I would not do it with junk cabinets. Took 2 weeks to have mine done at the higher end of that range, including paint and all supplies. Included painting insides. Included removing all doors, hardware and reinstalling everything. Seemed expensive at first, but worth it.
