If you work downtown the park n ride is sweet
Park at the lot cue up and on a bus every seven minutes
They turn the lights off you go to sleep and they ring the bell to wake you up when you get downtown
Coming home a little busier but not bad at all

They finally got one here just in the last six months or so. My own personal Mecca. They relaxed the ban on liquor stores but they still have this weird 51-49 law as far as how much a restaurant can make on liquor sales. As far as fine dining we have Killen’s and not much else. And that law is a big reason.

I live in walking distance of Tompkins HS. I love this area. No flooding from Harvey. Will be especially nice when these road construction projects are done. Fulshear is nice and new but I wouldn’t live there if I had to commute downtown. At least not until construction is done. Katy is already far enough. Really no need to go further. Cane Island development would be fine too.

Katy isn’t what it used to be. We used to live in what was considered the wealthy area and if slowly started becoming more ghetto and white trash. Crime is rising there. Basically folks from north of i10 are slowly moving into the area. Lots of drug activity.

I used to live in Highland Park too! Technically Indian Springs, i think. Off Abbey springs. Loved that neighborhood. Moved across Falcon Landing to Silver Ranch a few years ago. Such a small world.

Tompkins is the best HS in KISD

Has it taken over from Seven Lakes? Tompkins was built after I moved out.

We are looking in memorial mall area north of buffalo bayou, east of bw8. Kids are out of the house

Some of my very best friends, about 3 years ago, moved from Seven Meadows to a subdivision just west of Dairy Ashford and between Briar Forrest and Buffalo Bayou. They live on the north side of the street, the water covered the street and got about 2/3 of the way up the lawn and stopped. Everything starting on the other side (south) of the street to the bayou flooded.

So that was a bit scary AF for them. But otherwise they love it. The wife teaches at Memorial and the husband works in Energy Corridor. Kids go to the public schools there and they are great. Spring Branch seems very hit or miss these days.

Cross Creek is incredible. When we lived in Katy we were in Firethorne and liked it. But Cross Creek is so well designed. Almost anywhere in Cinco Ranch is good. If you are going to go North of I10, you need to be IN old Katy... there is a new development by Katy High school that is nice called Cane Island. There are also some nice small neighborhoods down Ave D in Katy that are nice as well as some older ones as you get closer to Katy-Hockly. The area they are referencing north of i10 is the area East of 99 and North of i10. Anything West of 99 north of i10 you are fine.

Friend has a GORGEOUS house here, but no kids and no plans for kids. Foster seems OK but well behind KISD schools.

yeah, in a lot of ways

it is weird because there is zero demographic difference between the two schools. The Principal of Tompkins is just better at his job. They replaced the principal at SLHS for this school year.

Tompkins is only 6 years old so the school rankings stuff hasn't caught up yet. If you look at the Music/Arts/Drama/Sports Tompkins has had more recent success than SLHS. Particularly in sports.

Yeah the coaching and teachers that changed at SLHS was part of a diversity program that a previous administration instituted. Was a complete failure.

Interesting.

We talk a lot in NOLA about how it doesn't matter how good the teachers/admin are, if the demographics reflect a community that doesn't value education.

I guess the inverse is true also. You can have demographics that highly value education, but if you don't have good teachers/admins, the school will suffer.

Also, I wonder if they will eventually be scooped by the new HS in CCR
