I like pushing through, not sure if that's the correct thing to do though. Like if my legs are sore as all get out, I like running and doing light squats to get the juices flowing.

The Results and Recovery Formula is the best. It always gets me back.

Whats this I hear sometimes people drink just regular chocolate milk? Is it as good as the Recovery Formula or say a protein shake?

I wouldn't know. Doctor Tyger knows. He recommends it, I think.

Rest. You are not yet ready to take on that intensity, look at this week and maybe next as a warm up to get back to base level. Soreness is one thing, actual pain is another. Take today off and do light cardio to get your blood pumping and get the lactic acid out of your muscles.

Buy a Whey Protein supplement for post-workout to assist in recovery. Also eat something like a banana, which is high in natural carbohydrates, to get your insulin levels up and assist in muscle growth.

If you push through it, take it easy. Don't do too much. Doing so will only hurt you further, stall growth, and make you not want to continue.

That's my 2cents. Maybe other feel differently, but it sounds like you are more than just "sore."

fitness.com article on chocolate milk post workout
quote:

Compared to plain milk, water, or most sports drinks, it has double the carbohydrate and protein content, perfect for replenishing tired muscles. Its high water content replaces fluids lost as sweat, preventing dehydration. Plus it packs a nutritional bonus of calcium, and includes just a little sodium and sugar -- additives that help recovering athletes retain water and regain energy.
Drinking plain water after exercise replaces sweat losses -- and that's it. "Chocolate milk provides carbohydrate replenishment to your muscles -- something they can metabolize," said Jason Karp, MS, another researcher for this study. "There's nothing to metabolize in water."

It may not be as good as a protein shake specifically formulated to assist in muscle recovery, but it isn't bad for you. It has protein and carbs, which, simply put, will assist in growth and recovery.

I had been drinking just a couple of scoops of whey + water after my workout. My brother convinced me to add in some gatorade powder as wel, so now I pound a 12 oz cup of gatorade then mix up my protein.

I think the reason for my pain is on my wide pushups I went all the way to the floor trying to get a good deep push. My chest-shoulder area is literally on fire right now.

No

or should I take a day off to maybe let my body catch up.

Yes.

When you're sore it's because you've created microtears in you muscles and your body is repairing them. This is a a good thing. Microtears and rebuilding is how a muscle hypertrophies (gets bigger). But, it is in a sense an injury. Would you do curls with a torn bicep? Would you run a mile on a sprained ankle? Of course not. So don't workout if you're in pain like that. You need to heal. It's ok to take a day off.

Oh, and foam roll. It's magical.

Chocolate milk is a good one, but I don't like it as much because it has processed sugars. It is 4 parts carbs to 1 part protein though which is the perfect recovery drink.

You can technically make your own but I love the P90X one. If nothing else, it just tastes delicious.

And protein shakes are good for after resistance workouts. Gives you the raw materials to rebuild all that muscle you just broke down.

That's not bad. Honestly, I did the same thing my first round of P90X, but gatorade still do has too much processed sugar in it.

R&RF has dextrose and maltodextrin as it's carb sources. Those are two monosaccharides, the simplest of sugars that are easily absorbed by cells and cause a minimal insulin spike.

Good to know the Doc and I are on the same page.

And painful. You think you're sore now... woof. But it is pretty amazing after a day or so. Just watch a video on how to properly do it, because too many people go in and foam roll like they are rolling out pizza dough. It's a slow, painful process. As you feel your muscle tighten in spots, sit there and allow yourself to relax as best you can so that the muscle releases. You are essentially giving yourself a deep tissue massage.

Oh by all means get it. I'm not saying not to, just saying I like my R&RF better.

That's exactly what I tell patients I recommend it to.

Hrrrmmm... Gotta be careful with that. You don't want to tear part of your shoulder (if you haven't already). I would definitely take time off for that. If it still hurts in four or five days after rest and ice, it may be worth going to see someone or starting some easy resistance band physical therapy.

If you're talking about the area where your chest and shoulder connect, more than likely you are just very sore. But if it's higher in the shoulder, that would be more concerning to me. But I'm no doctor.

I think the gatorade powder (specifically the powder) uses dextrose as the main carb source, at least that's what my brother was saying. and for $9 for that tub it saves me money. No chance in hell the wife would let me spend money on the beachbody supplements, hell I got a stink eye just for putting the gatorade powder in the buggy

It does, but sucrose too. And as sweet as it is I highly doubt dextrose is the main carb source.

No joke. Shakeology alone is insanely expensive.
