Which isn't a sport either IMO. The process matters to me.

I am not sure of the giraffe population in this area but that is the exact situation that has happened with some endangered black rhino herds.

When you only have a few breed-able males and a sterile male will kill them, wouldn't it be wise to remove the sterile one so that the species can thrive?

If some American wants to pay exuberant amounts of money to the locals to do so; even better

Okay... you've convinced me

Is the purpose of the hunt to provide food or for sport?

My fridge doesn't give a shite about the process.

I mostly duck hunt and have had no decoys and no calls before and still killed ducks. All I did was hide just ever so slightly. How does that process work for you? I've also been on guided duck hunts where all I had to do was shoot when they said so if I wanted (My older sister who never hunted a day in her life until she dated her husband and he had a guided camp).

They can be but I don't think that the action is what makes them a shite head

See I think this was my issue... Jealousy and hate towards the shite head from America vs the situation that benefits the tribe, economy and wildlife over seas.

The action, no. I think the point a few have made is that the type of person we always see spending this absurd amount to be brought to an animal and shoot it is usually a douche bag.

The person spending the money to do this isn’t doing it because it’ll feed the village and all that. They do it because they want to. Whatever happens with the carcass isn’t happening because this chick said she wanted that to happen.

The villagers need something done and found out you can charge douchey Americans thousands to come do it for them. Brilliant really.

How do we know this exactly?

You started off with "this jist gives us a bad name" and "you don't kill animals for sport", and now you say you were jealous?

Unless you need to hunt to survive (i.e., subsistence hunting), you are a sport hunter. I would venture to say that 99% of hunters in North America are sport hunters.

Ive been on quail hunts where the guide goes out and sets coveys in the field while we're eating breakfast.

then we go out and walk behind the dogs and shoot the quail as they are flushed out.

I dont really consider that hunting but shooting a flying quail is a sport IMO

ETA: We eat the quail...so it's a sport that we do but also feed our families

I don't think the word "need" is accurate. I strongly prefer to hunt, fish, and procure the my food for myself

Yes, I could go buy ground meat and ribeyes instead but I much rather eating backstrap and grinding meat from the animals I kill

I know a girl that her family has a creek behind their house where her and her dad will walk along the creek in plain clothes and shoot wood ducks during the season.

I don't get why people have a problem with this rather you think they are douchey or not. It is not your money and if this person wants to spend money doing this while also providing for a village and conserve a species, let them.

Yeah a kinda douche looking one.

I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with it.

Not really sure why. If you posted his picture without Cecil next to it, none of the outraged pussies that melted over him would have any idea who he is.

Labeling anyone that goes on those hunts as douches is just lazy.

Every picture has the lion next to him.

Saying this is what I said is lazy. I said they tend to be douchey, not that anyone who does it is.

The larger point is that these people aren’t doing it so they can feed a village and protect other giraffes. They do it for their own satisfaction. Again, not that there’s anything wrong with it since the end result is positive, but it’s okay to admit both sides of this.
