When I turn on the water to my outdoor spigots (all of them exhibit this behavior, from what I can tell), the water starts out cool, like a typical hose-water temperature. But, then it gets hot, and remains that way. Just like when you start your bath water, and its cool but then gets hot.

I'm assuming this is related to my water heater somehow? Is there a water thermostat for the outdoor spigots? Where would I find that?

Maybe the water is coming from where "hot water heaters" get their water from.

Reminiscing about drinking water straight from the hose outside and the sudden 120 degree temp during a wiffle bat tourney

Cool water is in the water line from meter to house (closest to earthen soul) then the water gets hot cause it’s in the lines near the street and is hotter from heat transfer from road.

At least that’s my theory

No, I'm poking fun at those who call it a "hot water heater" instead of simply a "water heater".

New problem? New house? My only guess is the previous owners had their outdoor faucets installed for hot water for some reason

We are second owners, 12 yr old home.

You mean they had the outdoor spigots "wired" to draw from the WATER HEATER ?

We used the fat bats and would wrap duct tape on the ball. And once the bat split, duct tape on it so they would last.

I would guess that your pipes run in the attic and water is getting hot up there during the day.

I would do a test by turning off the valve to your water heater and then opening an outside spigot...if water doesn’t flow, call a plumber to straighten the shite out. If water keeps flowing, you are good.

Your hot water must be tapped into your cold water line. How many do you have?
