Wonder if Dickie's house will catch fire again.

The Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles released the following statement:

Due to a statewide network outage affecting all Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles field offices, we are currently unable to provide services to residents at this time. There is no estimated time for restoration available. We understand the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and cooperation. We will provide regular updates on www.expresslane.org and OMV social media platforms.

The LDWF computer network is down, including email and telephone systems. We apologize for the inconvenience. Our headquarters staff cannot answer phone calls or process boat registrations or licenses. The state Office of Technology Services is currently working on a resolution. Please wait to travel to LDWF headquarters for licensing and boat registration work until this problem is resolved.

I thought it said OT's network is down and I started to panic a little.

It’s more than just the DMV. It’s a shite-ton of state agencies that are down.

Not to worry. I’m sure that motivated staff of go-getters is working tirelessly to get back up and running.

Article says email is out. Data center issue or networking? Hopefully not a contractor with too much access again.

How is this statement any different from any time during a regular workday there?

Last time I went to renew my license I was pretty sure I wasn't going to pass the eye test and she didn't even bother to give me one. Stay out of my way, people!

I have a flag on my renewal from a car I sold in 2012. I gave up trying to get a renewal after 2 hours on the phone.

I can’t speak for other agencies, but where I’m at we’re dead in the water right now. Anything you need a network connection for is kaput.

Happened to my mom recently. OMV told her that an audit found they had missed thousands of tests. Expect a letter in about 4 months stating that you failed your vision test and have 10 days to come in and take a new one or your license will be suspended.

I'd say "China", but then I remember that its Louisiana and incompetence is the more likely culprit.

They definitely have that. That’s one of the points of consolidated IT. Easier to make agencies invest in security and reduce the chances of getting screwed by vendors that take technical shortcuts.

I have failed every vision test since I got my DL.

The nice old black lady shakes her head, calls me baby, and gives me my dl.
