I think I need to officially retire from deadlifts. I'm currently on my 4th lower back injury in about 5 years. Original injury was L4 L5 and S1 herniated discs along with stenosis of spinal accessory nerves.
Any suggestions besides squats/leg press to go ham on my lower body? I'm not trying to go super heavy and probably have to give it a few weeks before going back after legs in general.
TIA

May as well kill yourself.

Maybe your technique sucks. Have you had someone watch you closely?

Good luck, I threw my back out 2 years ago in the middle of a heavy deadlift set and haven't been the same since.

Nah, you need to retire from poor form.

It could very well have been the form. I was using a regular bar when I normally use a hex bar. On my last set (always) I felt it. fricked me up.

Try bodyweight exercises and work up to single leg squats. If you can do that, you'll have all the strength you need.

How much weight and how many sets? Were you warmed up? This whole story is very disturbing.

How do you guys audit y'all's form from time to time?
I'm about to start lifting for the first time in my life and find the OP's post a little unsettling.

As a wise man once said, "Life is not worth living if you can't do a deadlift."

Watch videos that demonstrate proper form. Practice it religiously with light weight until it becomes habit. Keep one rep in the tank on every set.

Don't go over 135 for at least a year. If that is too much, just use the bar and work on form. I am not an amateur and still have my technique critiqued to make sure it is correct. I think that the movement if if using no weight will aid you into older age. How old are you? Leg presses can help keep your hip flexors from tightening as well.

Herniated my 2nd disc at L4/L5 this summer.
If you want it to ever have a chance of getting better, stay away from the weights. I'd suggest swimming as much as you can as strengthening your core will bring some stability to your otherwise weakened back.
I had an epidural done this past week and it has helped a lot..that combined with muscle relaxers/anti inflammatories and lortabs have made the pain go down from pain on a 7/10 scale before to a 3/10 and sometimes no noticeable pain. The number one thing is to keep active and don't reinjure yourself because you still want to lift

You better work on your squat technique before you blow a knee as well.

It'll get your body repaired for more deadlifts. No doubt.
