My dog came down with Kennel Cough this morning. He is still eating fine, but not drinking much water. He doesn't have the hacking cough, just gags till he chokes up clear liquid. My vet told me to try Robitussin which isn't helping.

My question is: when do I get worried that he is throwing up all this liquid and not replacing with enough water?

TIA

Will he eat ice?

My dog did when he got the cough. Wouldn't drink much but he'd lick ice all over the floor.

He is probably vomiting bile. If he isn't drinking water then he won't be throwing it up. Believe it or not, (even though it doesn't feel this way) vomiting is not the thing that can dehydrate and kill you. It is diarrhea that will do that.

But if he can't keep fluids down over a 24 hour period, you will notice lethargy as a primary indicator, then you will want to get them to give him an IV.
