Big girl job got in the way. Heard a buddy talk about TD. Thought I'd poke my head in. OT has gone soft.

The 299 Days series is good, but pricey.
If you're into more of a SciFi/SCA bent, try out S.M. Stirling's The Change series starting with Dies The Fire.

Another interesting thing I have read on numerous occasions is that the circuits in cars are all so short, they most on the road today would not be impacted by an EMP. Gauges may be off or not work, but the car itself would still run.

You disappeared so I got married... I thought you died or something.
So much for us living happily ever after together

I can recommend more, but then we'd be getting really deep into the "surivalist/TEOTWAKI" genre.
ETA: You might like the Home series (Going Home, Leaving Home, etc) by A. American as well.

Good for you! There's always the second marriage. I may die with the Ebola outbreak here in Dallas. To prep for this, I'll buy some hazmat suits.

The 3 year figure is accurate if you're starting from virgin land. I've been growing food prolly longer than some of you guys been alive. :)
This is my largest garden with cover crop. Have 3 acres of garden ready to plant - pH correct, cover crops 3+ years. It's basically a soil bank in case of emergencies.
Are there some best crops for the time/hardiness, etc? IOW, easy to grow and high in nutrients? Been compiling data since this thread made my agent orange act up and I got all paranoid.

Lights Out now published
Ha, funny, I got an internet draft of this book before it was published. Good to go.

Does hard/wet legging have to ruin every fricking thread? Ya'll find a room thread. GTFO.

I have a cousin who lives on the farm my mother was born at in Tallulah, La (way out in the country). Take my family there and live off the land. No one would care about us there. We could live reasonably safe and food and water would be available.

I'm waiting for Lights Out: The Movie.

I'll see if I can find a thread I was reading on AR15.com regarding this

had to think about this one for a minute
I'm guessing you would want to plant large things that grow easily - winter squash, pumpkins, acorn squash (these all store well in cool weather + have tons of carbs). Okra produces a LOT of food for a long period of time. Peas/beans are easy to grow. I'd stay away from corn completely at first. Way too many pests.
If you want some of the best gardening knowledge check out 'bayou gardener' website. It's run by a Louisiana guy named Don. Best site for real world, no-hype, no-nonsense gardening. Lots of preppers post on there.
