I do not recommend nuclear at all!!

BASF is hiring a few new hire classes a year but I doubt you’d be much more satisfied than where you are now.

You obviously have never worked in a plant. You just described EVERY boilermaker/pipefitter contractor. Not operators.

Dont think your gonna get much better than those numbers. You could go work pipeline and have a fair amount of time off. Smaller work force. But wont make what you make in a big plant.

what's the operator stereotype?
Posted on 4/24/18 at 11:49 pm to SouthTiger504
For the life of me I can't figure out which one you're at. I thought there were only 4 left who give pensions but I guess there's another. All you're rates are a hair higher than the oil company I'm familiar with.

We’re a small chemical division of a top 3 oil company

About the same at my site as well.

Ohhhhh I know exactly where you are then. I had always heard yalls pay/benefits were top notch. The cross training/batch processes you mentioned don't sound too appealing, but atleast you're paid handsomely for it.

What four is that? There may be 5 or 6

I thought we were average. What company are you familiar with?
Posted on 4/25/18 at 12:19 am to indytiger
You from the independence area?

The cross training is the worst. Can go 6+ months without working the unit and get forced OT on the board at any time.
They make sure we work at least 7 shifts on each job to stay qualified. Only positive is, you’ll be certified on the DCS and outside in less than a year and split time between the 2
Posted on 4/25/18 at 12:28 am to SouthTiger504
One of the ones you mentioned.
Posted on 4/25/18 at 12:31 am to SouthTiger504
Takes us 4 years to qualify in all our units and DCS. 2 years in the field and 2 years DCS
Posted on 4/25/18 at 12:44 am to indytiger
Hmm, thought all the ones I mentioned had higher operator pay.
I’m interested in Valero and Shell in Norco and Valero in Meraux. Is it one of these 3?

Yup. And like I said, it's only a hair difference.

And you guys probably make it up in bonus. Our bonus this year was 6%
