Yeah, I'm not a believer. Open to evidence of course.

3 scariest moments of my life and I've been in several armed robberies. Those things are so real and take a solid few seconds to realize you're not quite awake yet even if up out of bed freaking out.

Were you at BRHS when that young Asian boy killed himself? Was my neighbor. Yea I was heading to class at LSU the morning they were taking his body out of the house and bloody mattress. Sad. I don't fault a kid so much for suicide like an adult/parent. He was very depressed over a girl.

Sorry to hear. Different guy. I moved away from BR during high school.

Rent house we lived in while in a move was haunted as frick. Always heard noises in the attic, like some sort of violent wrestling match was going on. One time my mom was pouring a coke and something lifted the two liter from behind and made her spill it all over the counter. Another time my dad was walking down the hall at night and the attic door string hit him under the chin( it was normally about a foot over his head) when he stopped and looked up it slammed shut. One day I was there alone and here noise in my parents bedroom. As I got closer I could here cloths hangers slinging on the rack so I thought someone was in there. When I walked in the room nobody was there but the hangers were moving back and forth. I stayed at my grandparents house the rest of the time after that.

This has been an interesting thread. I am a believer in an afterlife (16 years of Catholic education and being brought up in a staunchly Catholic family in the 50s and 60s did that to me). I haven't encountered any spirits and hope not to until I am dead.

I've never experienced a truly supernatural incident, but I have experienced sleep paralysis several times, which is scary as all hell, and sometimes attributed to hauntings. You wake up fully aware, but your body is completely paralyzed and you cannot move. It passes after a few seconds, but those few seconds are usually harrowing.

Just posted this on the Need to Kill Time thread. i will post it here as well
My history teacher told the class this story one day:
Her husband is in the military and earlier in life they had been stationed in Las Vegas, where her husband was a deacon in a local church.
Some members of their youth group were friends with a guy who supposedly "dabbled in the occult/satan worship/witchcraft" whatever (I'm aware that this is considered an overblown thing and usually made up, but my history teacher was being serious about this).
At some point while they're at church one day, the youth group guys rush into the church and tell them the friend had been out in the desert doing whatever it was he was doing, and that when they found him, he didn't respond to anything. He just looked straight ahead.
So they picked him up and put him in the van and drove him to the church. The deacons go out to the van and try their luck. No response, he just stares straight ahead.
They decide to bring him inside the church. No luck, straight ahead.
Finally the pastor decides they should pray over him. They place their hands on him and his head snaps toward them and speaks in a strange voice, obviously angry.
It culminated with the chair moving back of it;s own accord.
That's all I remember her telling us. I don't know if they continued praying or what they did with him after that.

I've told it before but I hate to tell it because it sounds so crazy. Over the years, I have come to think it must have been the type of hallucination mentioned in this thread or the most extreme lucid dream ever.
When I was in college, I worked at a bar and wouldn't get home until about 2am. On this particular night, I get home and the house smells like burnt popcorn, so I go upstairs to see if my roommate is awake upstairs. She is gone, so I call her phone but she doesn't answer. Anyways, I figure she went to her bf's house and I go get ready for bed. Then I go to sleep.
(sidenote: I had been sleeping on a water mattress bed for the past few years, that was plugged into the wall and I could turn it on and adjust the heat thermostat on it during the winter.)
At some point in the night, I am awakened because my body is on fire and there is a crazy loud noise coming from the kitchen that sounds like the dishwasher has gone berzerk. The bed is so fricking hot that I feel like I am boiling alive in my bed. I reach over to the side of the wall to yank out the plug from the outlet. It's not plugged in. Now I am freaked out and jump out of that bed so quick I almost fall down. I start walking towards the kitchen to see what is going on with the dishwasher and the sounds get lower and lower until I am standing in the kitchen and there is no more noise. I'm totally weirded out now and do not want to stay in the house another minute, so I grab my keys and drive to my roommate's bf's apt and bang on the door until they let me in. Roomy is there and tells me that she left because she got scared. I said me too and we never discussed it again.
eta: I got rid of the mattress ASAP after this happened.

Sort off topic for this thread, but she has a scary story of a different vein as well-
She came to our school early one morning before anyone else like she normally does. She heard a sound in the kitchen and thinks it's probably our athletic director/Bible teacher because he gets there early sometimes as well. She even calls out to him.
As she walks toward the kitchen she stops cold. Someone had placed some piece of metal kitchen equipment (I forgot what) standing up behind a counter.
It's a good thing, because in the reflection she sees there's a man crouched down behind the counter, an apparent burglar. She backs up with her eyes fixed on the kitchen.
She makes it out to her car. it won't freaking start. Her phone was either dead, had no service, or didn't work properly, not quite sure. It's a horror movie script. She ran across the street to the church.

Sounds like that lady needs to marry a police officer
I'm convinced there are not only spirits out there, but a multitude of types.
I sincerely hope my days are over.

So you all just continued living in the apartment like nothing happened?

I suffer from sleep paralysis all the time. I had it this afternoon during my nap. I woke up and there was something demonic laying on my bed next to me. It sucks but It's all in my head.

My wife's best friend had a ghost when she was child. It went from house to house when she moved. I always called bullshite on it, until her oldest boy started talking to someone when he was alone. His mom asked who he was talking to and he said the name of the ghost that she knew when she was young. I still think it's bullshite but it's creepy as hell to think about

She is married to a former soldier so that's not bad.

The crazy thing about that attic was although there was all that noise going on, when we went up there to check it out the attic was spotless and there was a set rat trap every square foot of the whole attic. If something was up there rolling around it would have set off a bunch of traps and made a mess. It was weird.
