Yes we went to the tour. I was impressed, seems like a solid school.

Montessori? I’ve heard lots of good things about that program there.

Same. I guess we’ll get it tomorrow or Saturday.

Going forward, they should look into emailing. I’d imagine it would save a lot of time and resources. They get a shite ton of apps.

Lab School is not that great. It is cheap and a better option than EBR public schools, but it is not some Mecca of Academia. A lot of people are leaving because the high school is full of recruits.

Nothing in my mailbox either. I feel I will be moving to Livingston or EA in the future.

Just send them to a Belaire, Glen Oaks, Capital or one of the other public schools so they can get a great education.

Mine too. If you don’t get accepted you automatically get put on the waitlist, I believe.

Thin envelopes don't necessarily mean rejection. An acceptance is not going to be a super thick package like a lot of colleges send out with their acceptance letters.

It will probably be a one-page letter saying, "Congratulations! Your child has been accepted into X school." Then it will tell you what the next steps are, usually school testing to make sure the student is at or above grade level (depending on the program). It may give you the date of testing, or it may tell you that info will come later. Sometimes it might be two sheets of paper, and/or possibly include one you have to return to the school to officially accept your spot. But it usually isn't a big packet either way.

If you aren't accepted into your first choice school, I think you're automatically waitlisted there. But if you choose to accept a spot in your 2nd choice school, you give up the waitlist spot in the 1st choice.

The public & magnet schools in the area. ULS just slipped to second in elementary school rankings & they’re probably 2nd or 3rd in HS.

Private schools aren’t included in rankings and were never option for us anyway.

It just a single sheet of paper. You automatically get put on a wait list. Are you applying for kindergarten?

Some advice based on my experience:
My first child got a chance to test but was having one of those days 4 year olds have and just didnt co-operate during testing and didnt get in. She was well prepared and could do all the skills necessary but just choked. We panicked a bit considered a move out of EBR but decided to check out the local elementary school. We were lucky in that our neighborhood school really wasnt bad. Staff was great and the had an accelerated learning class of about 12 kids that my daughter tested into just fine. Most of the EBR non magnet schools are not good but there are few that arent bad. Hopefully your child makes it into the Magnet school of your choice but if not.. at least check out your local school. See for yourself if it is a place your would consider sending your kid for a few years.

Two years later our oldest got into the Magnet program along with her younger sister. They both love Mayfair Lab
