OT meteorologist: winter vs summer

Something I've always wondered. Why is it consistently hot in the summer but not consistently cold in the winter? You get small temperature fluctuations in the summer but it's mostly balls hot. In the winter the temperature can fluctuate 30-40 degrees multiple times a month.
When the earth tilts away from the sun in the winter you would think it would create an environment of consistently colder weather.

Because Louisana is super close to the equator. Alaska has pretty cool summers for the most part.

If we lived on an island this would be our normal winter temps. Cold dry air pushes south over land and that’s why we get cold spurts but warm back up quickly

Interestingly enough, it wasn't always like this. It wasn't until recently that they started with the whole "changing winter temperature" thing. It started in Maine, I believe.

Even still up north you don't get the consistent temperatures in winter like you do in the summer. And by 'north' I don't mean Edmonton, but like the northern continental US

Because you live in Houma. Come on up to the Northeast. Trust me it’s consistently cold.

I can assure you that it doesn’t. It’s much more temperate in the summer, but it’s consistent.

Summertime: sun is firmly overhead in northern hemisphere. Very little temperature gradient from equator to 60 degrees North.
-weak polar Jet displaced over Canada. Subtropical jet almost non-Existent during summer.
Weaker temperature gradient equates to lower pressure gradients. Fewer air mass boundaries/fronts coming down to the southern US.
Winter time has moving upper level ridges/Troughs that can be progressive hence causing warm moist air from tropics to enter Southern US while lower sun angle cools the arctic. Jet stream much stronger in winter and pressure gradients are greater in winter. More windy in winter than in summer.
