OT Lawyers: Why are the lowest priority hearings the hardest to refix?

I have an election contest today at 10 a.m. Election contests are on an extreme fast track, and have very high priority. I was notified of the setting late Friday after the close of business hours.
This a.m., the first business day after notice, I filed a motion to upset a telephone drivers license hearing. I assume that this would be an easy continuance, though it was last minute.
The response? Call in at 10:00 a.m. or it will be treated as a non-appearance.
"Excuse me, your Honor, may we delay this election contest while I call in on an administrative hearing?"

administrative hearing
that's your problem
you're not only dealing with the bureaucracy in a backwards, uneducated state, but you're also dealing with petty bureaucrats who base the entire concept of their existence around the small shred of power they are granted. real judges have real dockets they have to manage. these un-elected parasites do not

I sent a motion via email first thing this a.m.
Then, Clerk of Court calls and says the courthouse is closed so the problem resolved itself. I don't know why the TV station's list didn't list our courts.

I got one of those assigned on a Thursday only to find out the first hearing was the next Tuesday. I lucked out in that a co-defendant had a state lawyer with the same defense, and he let me coat tail.

I didn't get an e-mail until 9am that some of the federal courthouses are closed.

No and yes. The vast majority of real judges don't care about anything anymore, including managing their dockets. The unelected parasitic bureaucrats care even less, they just want their checklist complete.
It's getting increasingly unnecessarily difficult to do simple things now in either system.
