Long story short, I have been laid off from my job and I do not have health insurance as of now.
I have been with BCBS of Louisiana for a long time and I was with Vantage for a few months.
BTW, early 50s, non-smoker/drinker, live in NELA, Ouachita Parish.
COBRA is way out there on price.
I see there is 'short term' insurance plans available now.

BCBS offers 'Bridge Blue':

VantageHealth offers several plans as well:

Looking for opinions, recommendations or any other ideas.
I will hang up and listen.
TIA

These Short-Term plans are limited benefit plans that provide basic healthcare coverage, such as primary care office visit, lab work, diagnostic tests, and emergency service coverage. Discounts on some prescription drugs are also included in these plans

The only issue I've found is that your deductible resets during a shorter term. It's much cheaper for me, but I'm young, single, and healthy so may not apply to all or those with dependents.

Wouldn't call that living. Fortunately, an area too exotic for the coronavirus.
Which one did you prefer? Go with that one.

The short term plan is just that "short term" to get through a gap in coverage.
The big draw back is if something happens "cancer, heart attack, stroke etc etc " once the term is up the coverage is over and you will not be able to renew.
You would be better off getting a real plan but maybe take a $20,000 - $30,000 deductible and use it to cover your arse if you have a major event.
Most of the high deductible plans still cover Rx, preventive care and routine physicals prior to meeting the deductible etc etc

COBRA can usually be retroactive FYI, certainly double check that yours' is. So you have a couple of months to take your time and get normal insurance where if something major happens you can go back and get COBRA.
Again, double check that. But that's one of the reasons it is so high.

Great info, thanks.

Gotcha, I will call my former insurance administrator and check on that.
Just don't want to get caught in an emergency without no health insurance.
Thanks

Get married to a single female friend with her insurance and join her plan till you find yours.
Then get divorced.

Check into sharing ministries. Much cheaper and no open enrollment.
