OT gym rats: working out in the AM vs. PM

With it being fall and losing daylight in the PM i'm finding myself to tired to go to the gym after work. Are there any benefits going in the morning rather than evening? I've never done this, how does your day go after an early morning workout?

I used to love going in the morning. I thought I'd be exhausted the rest of the day, but was actually quite the opposite. I would wake up and be at the gym 15 min later. If possible, give yourself an hour or so.
I switched jobs and wake up a lot earlier now, so haven't figured out a good time to workout.

I think am workouts are far superior. You go in fresh and rested and it sets a positive momentum for your day. You have way more energy throughout the day and sleep well that night. The only thing that sucks is getting up.

Based of body cortisol levels, daily energy, and peak metabolism the best time to workout is probably 2-3 pm.
That's in theory.
In practice the best time to workout is whenever you can. I frequently workout at 9:30 pm because that's the only time I can.

Am workouts are better for your metabolism. Especially if you do cardio early in the morning your body will digest food like crazy the rest of the day.

How do you eat before going to the gym in the AM?
I get a lot of shite for taking adderall but I take 5mg (half a blue 10mg) to get me going for the day. Should I quit doing this?

I work out in the evening. Used to in the AM when I was in the army and hated it. I come home tired and take a dose of C4 and a shower to wake me up then I'm good to go. Guess it comes down to if you're a morning person or not.

My workouts are focused around cardio. I do a little lifting beforehand I hit the treadmill but nothing extreme.

AM, don't have time otherwise. Get up at 6 am and just do it

Don't unless you feel it hampers your workout. A lot of studies show working out in a fasted state is beneficial especially for burning fat. If you feel like you need something just eat a protein bar or a piece of fruit on the way to the gym.

I grew up taking it and find it helps me focus throughout the day. I only take 5mg though.

If you take it for ADD then don't stop taking it.
It won't hurt your workouts unless it suppresses your appetite.

I much prefer pm workouts. My body just works better at night. I am stronger, faster, more limber, and less lazy.
I dislike morning workouts, because my joints feel stiffer. The weight feels heavier. I feel inflexible.

Same here. I just feel "blah". I'd give anything to be a morning person though and be able to knock out a 5 AM workout

I figure I'll eat a piece of fruit before the workout. What about afterwards? Like I said before I'm not trying to bulk up rather shed a few pounds. What I usually do is do a few sets of dumbbell presses, followed by shoulder exercises and curls. (20min of lifting max) Then hit cardio for 30min

I used to love going to the gym at 4:30am before my 12 hour shifts in the ER. Everyone else would be dragging arse when they came in and I been up for over 3 hours. And I wasn't as tired as I thought I would be when 7pm would rolled around.

You should try a longer warmup then.
Maybe something like 10 minute of yoga before hitting the weights. There are few things that will wake you up better than 3-5 sun salutations.

I was gaining muscle in during my morning days. I would hop out of bed at 415ish and grab a nutri grain bar then throw down some pre-workout. I was out the door by 4:30 at the gym at 445. Then I would come home and fix a huge breakfast, all while everyone else is still asleep, and eat breakfast in peace.
Ahhhhh the days
