Neither is fatal and the treatment is basically the same. Hydrate and treat your fever.
But you likely have a bacterial infection from the food you ate. Likely staph aureus. You’ll be fine with or without antibiotics...assuming you’re able to stay hydrated.

You’re going to think you’re never going to get better... but you will. Give it two days then you’ll be good. Key is to drink as much water as You can and sleep. Wake up, yack, hydrate, sleep.
If it’s a 24 hour thing, it’s food poisoning. Longer than 48 hours is stomach virus.

I went six hours without being able to drink liquids without getting the intense shivers and puking immediately afterwards. Even a teaspoon sent me into violent death mode.
Finally fell asleep at midnight and just woke up at 230 wide awake, thirsty, and feeling somewhat better.
About to take my first teaspoon of liquid. Wish me luck.

Nah, it's entirely possible to get food poisoning after 1 hour. Staphylococcus aureus mentioned earlier would do it in that time frame.

I’ve had both stomach viruses that last days and I’ve had Montezuma’s revenge that only lasted 12 hours.
I’d rather have a stomach virus even though it last longer.

That quote basically says what I'm saying. Essentially every stomach virus is included in the list of typical food poisoning culprits.
ETA - Norovirus and Rotavirus are two common viruses that are found in food and cause the "stomach flu."

I appreciate the effort, but there is no real difference. Norovirus and Rotavirus are both common culprits in "food poisoning" and the "stomach flu".
Separating the same sickness based on whether you picked it up from a door knob or a banana doesn't make much sense.

Then again I’m not a doctor so I’ll just rely on your education on what the differences between food poisoning and a stomach virus is.
I hope you never get food poisoning. I literally wanted to shot myself in the head.
Stomach virus was more of a pain in the arse and was just annoying, but manageable.

Sorry to hear that baw. Hope you made it through the night.
I woke up this morning around 4 in a pool of my own sweat which means my fever broke. Took my temp and it’s back to 98. I still have no appetite and am shitting straight up water though.

I've had an overnight stomach issue when I got back from Mexico. I know that's cliché and all, but it was terrible the moment I landed back in the states. Has to use the bathroom twice in the airport before we could claim our bags. I don't know whether it was bacterial or a virus, but it sucked. Chills and all.
My kids have had Norovirus a handful of times. That's pretty common at their age.

A fever is uncommon in staph food poisoning. It's more likely you have Norovirus or something similar, which may mean you got it from something other than your dinner.
