Hi Scary….she’s only 10, so we’ll probably hold off on the shrooms for now.

I think we need to start some yoga and meditation. She already home schools, so that’s a good thing.

I hesitate to say this since it’s a peds patient and not ocular migraines. As I noted last week one of my sons had ocular migraines and we tried everything. 3 docs. Heavy meds. Took him to a chiropractor and it was like turning off a switch. All I got. Overall I don’t recommend chiropractors but…..

Hi Jeff…we love the Chiro. My sister and I both see one for headaches. I have horrible knees so my back gets pretty out of whack.

My Bro in law sees in because he does
Lots of manual work and climbing ladders and stuff.

We are not opposed to alternative treatment methods.

Actually my child is being considered being in a research group for this very reason. It can be because of a genetic abnormality. I know heat and stress will trigger it. She consumes alot of fluids, which was concerning at first.

Here is a link

Hey Auce… right now we’re trying to figure out how to keep them from happening. And if she does get one to keep the anxiety low so she can recover.

Today she had complete right side weakness, could not stand/walk, slurred speech and asymmetrical smile. She could still swallow and no drooling, but complete right side weakness from head to toe.

It’s really scary.

Most can be used in kids, topiramate, verapamil, propranolol, and triptans (all dosed for weight when relevant) are ones I’ve given for 12-18 yrs old.

I’d have to look into it for younger but likely most are safe at right dosages

Scary indeed

The friend I need to talk to has these types of migraines, and I'll see what she can add. I'll get to talk with her in the morning, and I'll add what she says.

Does anyone else in your family have a history of those type of migraines? It’s my understanding there can be a genetic link.

I’ve never had one but know folks from a migraine group I was in when I had migraine with aura that talked about how scary they can be. They’ll work to make sure it wasn’t potential stroke because symptoms are really similar.

Sending some good vibes your way.

My left side goes numb. Really scary when I was younger, as I didn't know what was going on. As I aged, I figured out I had a chronic disease that triggered it (psoriatic arthritis). See if her mother/dad have any heath issues and go from there.

xtensive/excessive testing

You mean to tell me doctors order excessive tests, especially when they have no clue what is going on??? Sir, you just ordered a screening test for a confirmation test you already ordered and got results on.. and its negative. Oh, yeah, you want to do an assay for EVERY factor?

I guess there is the other side, they go straight to ordering path review without ANY screening tests. I don't know what is worse.

Ok, talked to my friend; she has dealt with them for 30+ years.

A few years ago, on advice from a neurologist, she started having Botox injections for this issue.

It is a insurance-coverd procedure and is a recognized prophylactic for migraines.

Her recommendations were to make sure the doctor uses a small-gauge needle, and to use Lidocaine on the forehead and and back of neck about 30-45 minutes before injections.
They aren't super-painful, but there are quite a few.

Obviously, you'll talk with her neurologist, but she said it has really worked well for her.

Thanks Vette. We’re really hoping to be able to manage without some near fear and panic.

It seems that her migraine type is going to be hemiplegic.

Hey Squirrel. She is doing so much better.

We had some blood drawn to do a genetics test. We know she has maternal migraine history, my sister has weakness and the eat of us have/had brutal migraines.

There is also some research showing concurrence autism. Her dad has Asperger’s and my niece is showing some spectrum markers. We are waiting for an appointment with the developmental pediatrician.

Right now we just have to accept that this is the type of migraine she will have and we’ll have to figure out how to handle them.

ETA: the MUST do left arm draws. She’s a thumb sucker and sucks her right thumb. She also holds her woobie and plushies in her right hand. Last time they did right arm and she didn’t sleep until they took out the IV. Poor thing.

And grandma is visiting right now so she’s getting lots of hugs and love.
