mid 50 years old, never had constant joint/bone/muscle pain, but my sciatic nerve has been kicking my arse the last 2 months. I keep somewhat active by playing gold and walking for 30-45 minutes around the neighborhood 3-5 times a week for years, but these last two months are really pissing me off and is literally a pain in my arse. The act of sitting or standing from a sitting position send a sharp pain from my right arse check down the back of my thigh thru my calf.

My local world class health care provider has prescribed specific type stretching and first prednisone and now gabapentin with very little constant comfort.

Any insight or things that have helped ya'll would be appreciated. After all the OT knows shite my doctors don't.

In my medical opinion, you shouldn't get old.

Have the sciatic removed. Easy fix.

The only thing that has helped my dad is radio frequency ablation, and even then it's not complete relief.

stretching hamstrings seems to work. I've had this for the past few months. Googled and found a few stretching exercises recommended as alternative to surgery.

Try sleeping with a pillow between your knees.

in my experience all you can do is stretch and medicate until it gets better. It's a bitch.

I went to the chiro for this. They put me on a device like the medieval rack and stretched my back. After about a month, the sciatic pain relented.

I tried everything else including spinal injections. This is the only thing that worked.

honestly stretching achilles has helped relieve the pain i had in the joints between my toes and foot. Stretching hamstrings has helped a lot with sciatica. I don't medicate at all.

Yeah, stretching seems to give me temp relief, 10-30 minutes, but WTF it is hard to stretch every 30 mminutes during the work day or a round of golf.

You could try getting your fat arse off the couch for a little exercise. PS Golf and walking aren't exercise.

A friend has an inversion machine and I find if I hang upside down for 5-10 minutes it gives relief , but still only temporarily.

I mean, WTF, is this what I'm gonna feel like from now on unless i let them cut on my back which is something I don't want to do. I was good until 56 1/2 years old....FM

Lay on floor and use a tennis ball to place under sore area and floor....roll ball around using ur body weight to force the ball on the tender spots....surely helps relieve....its a hurting kind of relief but it works....

True that....no question I could stand to lose 15-20 lbs, and cardio is not in my routine....but frick man my cholesterol, blood pressure, psa, liver enzymes etc...are all in acceptable range and my quality of quality of life was great until 2 months ago. Wellness visits yearly and just had this years two weeks ago.
