Who gives a shite other than bitches.
You know who sets the price you're "supposed" to pay for a ring? The fricking people selling the rings. I shite you not. Look it up.
I got married late in life. I didn't ask my wife or anyone else about the ring I was going to give her. She gets a lot of compliments about her ring and I think I gave about 5K for it.
Don't go into debt over a damn ring because society and chick flicks tell you to go all out on a ring.
I pity poor bastards that think they accomplished something spending 30k on a ring they are going to pay for for 10+ years or kill a savings account built by living with mom and dad.

My husband proposed with a lovely ring with enormous diamonds. It cuts my latex gloves when I put them on, so I can’t wear it at work. I’m afraid to lose it and rarely put it on.
I wear the plain gold wedding band my father gave my mother. I appreciate my husband wanted to give me something beautiful. Honestly, I’d rather he’d have wasted the money on a longer honeymoon instead of a ring I don’t wear.

You didn't pay any money towards the honeymoon?

New money buys diamonds
LOL. My three sisters say otherwise. And considering I can afford my own fricking engagement ring, I’m not too concerned. I’d rather the Pateks personally. Now frick off, pleb.

Diamonds are not rare either, it's just one huge scam controlled by one corporation. It's really just a worthless rock.

Lmao OT ballers don’t buy rings

Clarity is more important than carat count
Yeah, because you notice the clarity on so many people's rings. You stress over that stuff a little when you purchase and never care again. My wife's is a VVS1 which is pretty good. ....no one gives a shite. Color is kind of important because you dont want it looking gross, but it doesn't need to be D.
Another poster hit the nail on the head. Get just under the major carat milestones and save. Hers is 1.45 I believe. Total with platinum setting and wedding band was like 12k. If I'd have gotten an actual 1.5, would have been a good bit more. I think I recall a slightly larger diamond in similar setting coming out around 20k.

We’re spending $78k on a Yukon today.......LX570 doesn’t have a true 3rd seat and the Escalade is too pimp. Don’t mind spending less than $100k as well.
On the ring, she wears a cheap (but tasteful) diamond band I bought in college. When it came time where we could afford a rock, she wanted a Rolex.

Men should push a new formula: for every $1k spent is one more year of guaranteed blowjobs

Depends on the cut. You aren't as likely to notice inclusions on a emerald cut stone.

I got a 1.03 in 1989 when all her friends were getting .5-.8. I paid $4k and it was appraised at over $13k. Because it was bigger and shinier than her friends we were all good.
Notice what her friends or sisters have. A little bit better one keeps y'all sweating together.

Old stones suck, less facets and usually beat up

The emeralds just look small unless you go big
I actually found that emeralds "faced up" decently, as they aren't as deep as a round. They don't shine as much as other cuts due to the way that they are cut though.
My wife's is a pear shaped, which has elements of facing up large and depth.

There is no real objective way to compare the prices of diamonds.
If you're looking at GIA certified diamonds they should run at a relatively normalized price per spec.

All the OT ballers around here are always talking about the LX570, Range Rover, G Wagon, BMW 7 Series, etc. they just bought their wife...and about the 5,000 sq homes they are about to build.
They are making that shite up
